  1. Also there is backlash paramaters for G00 and G01 moves so you need to always use either g00 or g01 in yor MDI program to obtain correct backlash settings. I set using a dial indicator likeJames machine a circle (dia 100) and do 3 dia 12 bored holes in a triangle 150mm apart. Then i get it checked on our CMM.
  2. We have a SV45H 1997 model used for roughing out die cavity/cores It is a very strong machine for this kind of work BUT!!!!!! - M/c grows from cold to warm by a large amount - Spindle / head becomes very hot when running in high revs - not accurate for cavity finish machining - poor overall Quality other problems fixed -spindle chiller packed up -new slidway gaurds -spindle orient problem (still a problem) orient intergrated in main board need to replace the board -toolchanger jams frequently
  3. Matt you use delcam as well, what cam system is preferred at your work place and do you need programmers to know both systems, or are you changing to mastercam thru out youre workshop???
  4. hi Under gap settings ,distance 10mm or larger, follow surface, untick use plunge retract rate ,check both gouge boxes , tick optimize cut order, for finish cuts I use surface contour using remove shallow cuts up to 30 degrees then use surface shallow up 35 or 40 degrees using 3d cutting method most times ccw direction outside to in hope this helps you
  5. When i bring a model in , i always analyse small surfaces less then .02mm change to a different colour, then move them to a different level, then just turn the level on with small surfs look at them if they are all small surfaces delete them. This cures 90 % of my generating problems...
  6. we have late 80's mazaks that run 2d all day every day, with surface programs occasionally. Surface progs run ok but feed on complex 3d shapes suffer.Open flowing 3d shapes not a problem (p.s no look ahead)
  7. We have a number of different machining centers with look ahead ranging from 0 blocks to 1500 blocks(lines), The more look ahead the smoother, faster and better surface finish you will achieve. For surface progs you need to use the filtering of 2:1 with creation of arcs or you will have to many pauses in paths.
  8. In X2, using the restmill paramaters with the hst toolpaths eg Raster, scallop does it give similar results as using leftover in the surface paths, Why I'm asking is we need to use the collision checking of the holder therefore we need to use the hst paths and not use the surface paths anymore??????? Darren
  9. thanks the hst toolpaths look great, the only thing that i wish they had from the surface paths are the minimun incremental retract in Z. What retract does everyone use, currently in v9.1 i use a incremental retract in Z of 20 mm for surface toolpaths . Is there a way you can do this with the hst toolpaths, Our machines only have a max feed of 10000mm/m and i would like to use full rapid 25000mm/m. Far as i can tell it is only safe using minnimun retract in hst with feedrate on ???? Darren
  10. This may seem like a stupid question but who are the suppliers of the hst toolpath stratergies, Ive heard that they are depo cam is this tue or are they a mastercam product. Also are the hst toolpaths going to make the other surface toolpaths extinct Same for 5 axis paths are the new stratergies there to replace the old stratergies and whom are they from. Does any one Know the Answers . Thankyou
  11. Thanks for your help ive not been modeling my holders with any chamfers on them, Ill test it out , thanks again
  12. Thanks beej I have not actually used x on any job, Im just evaluating and noticed this is a major fault, Only way to get around it is to actually extend cutter longer then what you put in Mastercam.Check out verify with tool on
  13. Hi everyone, Has anyone noticed when collision checking with the holder in hst toolpaths that when you add extra clearance for holder it only expands in dia eg x/y. Not in the Z!!!!!!!!! When verifing with tool and holder you can see holder gouging if you have left say 2mm stock and put say 5mm extra clear in holder page. Please let me know how this function works with confindence thanks
  14. Hi everyone Im just starting to use X Is there any functions to automatically create boundaries besides 1. Offseting the contour 2. Offseting surfaces the radius of the cutter you are using and creating edge curves. Then squashing chains and deleting curves you dont need. 3. Manually by multi line (sketching). 4. Chaining directly off the job 90% of the time I'll use centre of tool for boundrie containment. Are there other ways that boundaries can be created or is there some automatic features thankyou Darren
