  1. Chris, That is exactly what I was thinking when I saw my liitle gouges and the machine doing the funny arc dance. My day went a whole lot better today now that I have a clue how these things are supposed to be! [ 06-27-2003, 05:40 PM: Message edited by: lovell110 ]
  2. I'm glad I'm not seeing things. For the life of me I couldnt figure out why my program was not working. I'm glad I went to the books. I modified my post to get the right output but I had to understand why it needed to be this way. Here, I thought I was over worked. [ 06-26-2003, 10:11 PM: Message edited by: lovell110 ]
  3. Hi All, I was just reading my programming manual for this machine and something is not sitting right. In this book it claims that a G03 is a clockwise move! A G02 is a counter clockwise move! Now this machine requires a negative X value for its diameters. Has anyone seen this before? Or am I just overworked? John
  4. Chris, Thanks for your reply but I solved my problem. I was being stupid! It really helps when you PICK the tool first! Thanks again! John
  5. Hello all, I am using MCAM Lathe and I am trying to do a rough and finish canned cycle. I am using the same tool but I keep getting an alarm stating that my tool nose radius is not the same. Im using the same tool! What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated! John
  6. I agree Jay that backups are very good to have but I deal with people going to places they shouldn't be and doing things they shouldn't do and the usual canned response is "I didn't do anything"! So if I change it to a binary file there is less risk that they will mess with it. Its not the cure but it may be a good way to keep my posts safe! John
  7. Question, How would someone go about changing a .pst file to keep meddling new mastercam users from messing up a pefectly good post? I can't be watching all the time and I usually get one question a month on "I dont think the post is doing this right!" crap.
  8. SMO, I have a Cinn 10VC withan acramatic 900 contrller that uses P & Q vectors for cutter comp. I might be able to help. Email me and lets see what we can do!
  9. Mike, Presently we us SW in engineering and I import their files direcly into mastercam with no trouble. I cant say whats good or bad about the other softwares out there but my guys just laughed at the idea. That was enough for me!
  10. Frank, I presently have 8 machines hooked up to a Greco unit. That system isnt bad but we move machines around alot. I also have 5 machines hooked up to a wireless system that is great! You can move your machine anywhere in the shop and no wires! The machines all have MDSI controls and my IS dept claims that it should not be a problem with the Fanuc controls. You might wnat to look at incorporating wireless with your new DNC system. John
  11. Ver. 5...Isnt that like a collectors antique?
  12. Scott, Im looking at your code and getting confused! On the code you claim to want line 30 on look a little screwy. Before I can help I need to know what version of M/C your using! If you want you can email me a sample file with the code you want and your post and I'll dink around with it. John
  13. Hey Mike, How can you be fresh to teach when your up late chatting on the forum?
  14. Will M/C DNC function work with mazatrol language? What if you wanted to use mazatrol language only? How does it work? Bummer! [ 12-05-2001: Message edited by: lovell110 ]
  15. Mike, Have you tried making the center line of your axis Z0? With my 5 axis machine we just use the pivot point of the index head as Z0. Works great for me! Email me and I'll send you a MC8 file as sample!
  16. Thanks to comcast I have a stay of execution! Thank god! I don't know if I could survive Forum withdrawl!
  17. So long gang, Its been wonderful! I wont see you again until I find another internet provider. Im one of the lucky 4 million that will lose my service thanks to Excite! I hope to chat with you all real soon! Until then, stay well!
  18. Hi All, Im afraid I have to disagree with the posts above me. Gstephens says to make all the machines similar in controls. I have to differ in that idea. I would want to offer my students and future machinists in the world the largest variety possible to make them the most desirable applicants to future employers. Versitility is what I look for when it comes to hiring people.
  19. Mike, Enter in your M00 with a manual entry and then rotate Cplane and Tplane to selected side and save. I usually change the view to the same plane. Watch your depths and origin of the part. Try posting to see if thats what you want. John
  20. To all you instructors out there I need some input. Im graduate of Thaddeus Stevens State School of Technology and a member of the "Machine Tool Technology" advisory group. We are currently investigating o changing the name of our program to a more "catchy" name. I would like to know from all the instructors out there what would be some "catchy names" for our program? All suggestions will be presented to the group! Jay...this place is in your back yard...could use any help from you. Thank all!!!
  21. I wanted to take a week and go see all my favorite Mastercam guru's but my wife said I was...well I won't repeat...and Im still married!
  22. Andy, I don't have much experience in Ti but I have had great sucess in using form taps in 304,316,17PH,4140,4340,D2 etc... I prefer form taps when I have to do the small stuff. Just my 2
  23. Why would anyone care about a rating? If you can't figure out who has the good info vs. the bad info just by reading the posts, then that reader has bigger problems than using M/C.
  24. beav, Viscount 44 and I think its called Kapstar are new knock offs of an old material called elastuff 44 which was 44Rc but was quite machinable(the best stuff was the old stuff). We also make our own perisable tooling but we decided to use 4340 and have it hardended to the mid 40 Rc range. We found less distortion at heat treat with the 4340. I presently make our own insert drills and endmills out of 4340 and have had great success. I would suggest using 60-65% thread engagement tap drill for your screw holes in case the hole shrinks at heat treat. P.S. I personally think the endmill mfgs make them soft on purpose! Sneaky arent they! [ 08-07-2001: Message edited by: lovell110 ]
