  1. i guess i will have to figure this out on my own.
  2. when you program to the cutter edge i guess you have to use the g41 and g42. i guess this works but i use the center of the radius because it will machine just like i programmed it. the less operator intervention the better. as for reading the program is easy just subtract the cutter radius on Z and subtract the cutter diameter on X. i guess we all do what is best for us. is there a way to set the cutter radius as a default setting?
  3. maybe i was confusing. not the first time. In APT we always used the center of the radius in the lathe to machine parts. When i use mastercam lathe it defalts to the edges of the insert and i always have to change it to the cutter radius. I was wondering if anybody uses the cutter edge to program? and why? is there a way to make it a default to pick the cutter radius when i select the tool?
  4. Since i am a old (44) APT programmer we used to use the center of the radius on the insert tip to create the tool path. When i use the Lathe it defalts to the cutter edge and i always change it to the center of the radius to make sure i get the shape i am looking for. The question is does every do the same as i do and use the cutter radius? and if i create my own tool library will it be saved using the cutter radius when i call that tool from the library?
  5. is version 9 and X going to be completely compatable with each other? I mean if i make a program in ver 9 ver 8.1.1 would not be able to use it.
  6. Thank you Dan for the information i shall give it a try.
  7. what is the difference of the two files pst and txt? I mean what do they do and do they both have to be modified?
  8. I am using the mplfan.pst file for a Haas lathe. I would like to have a G83 output for the drill. Can someone tell me how to edit the post to do this. I would like a line of G83 Q.1R.1Z-1.F.01. the feedrate and depth are done but how do i get the other codes in the line.
  9. Gail, Thank you for the reply. I see that your changes work good. I tried to compare your changes to the original file and i made the changes to my file but i got the same result which was the chamfer was being undercut. I think i figured it out. I had to use the intersection of the virtical line and the od as the start point instead of the chamfer end point and then it worked perfect. Thank you for your help
  10. I am trying to get a cut off tool to work correctly but i cant seem to do it right. Can someone look at the file i uploaded named 0117410801.MC9 in the mc9 folder. I am trying to use the cut off tool on the left side of the part to cut it off bar stock and put a chamfer on the left side. I can get the cut off to work but not the chamfer it always want to cut it wrong. can someone look at the drawing to tell me how you would do it?

    DNC

thanks for the replies. I use Mastercam to load programs to the Haas. I should check but does mastercam (9.1 sp2) receive programs too? Maybe i could just use Mastercam for the DNC. I just want to transfer files not drip feed.

  14. I am using the fanuc post for a Haas hl-1 lathe i run. the post puts out a G28 W0 U0 M5 at the end of every operation. I would like to just have the G28 only. I have looked at the post and i see where i could change it to do what i want but i was wondering if there is a way to make the changes without changing the post
  15. i hear it might be andy. i used to work with him at honeywell too.
  16. Thank you for the reply gcode.i was afraid i would not be able to find any tooling
  17. i was going to go to westec but we are working too much and they don't have the time for me to go. the company purchased the machine in 1995. it has a strange turret because the tool holder goes into the face of the turret and is clamped down by a thing in the back that has threads that is turned with a wrench. by todays machines this one is junk but it runs good. i have looked everywhere for tooling and i cant find any.
  18. my instructor was Tom. I know Vince since i used to work with him at Honeywell.

  25. using Mastercam lathe i need to machine both ends of a slug. the configuration on each end is different. I was told by my Mastercam instructor that i would have to use 2 separate mastercam files to do this. is it possible i could use only one?
