  1. Thank you to everybody for your input it helps alot.
  2. i forgot about putting the angle on the hole. I am using a 3 flute 1/4-18 NPT thread mill now. If i put the correct angle on the part and threadmill in one pass it should work right? I do mostly Acetal plastic now and this will be Stainless steel. I run about 3000 RPM and a feed of 10 inches a minute for plastic. I was going to try 800 rpm and 1 inch a minute for the steel does that sound about right?
  3. We currently threadmill our 1/4-18 NPT holes. My boss wants me to do this to soft stainless steel. I have been reading other posts and i cant decide it peck tapping or threadmilling would be better. I am not sure our Fadal VMC will do thread tapping so Is it possible to get Mastercam to do the peck tapping? Is there a way to get Mastercam to take a few thousands off a pass if i threadmill? Any input is app reciated
  4. At Honeywell we used Predator software to do machine moitoring. It would send email or reports to any computer about how the machine was running. I dont know if they have video with it or not.
  5. People say the lakers are playing bad because they cany make a wide open shot. What missing a wide open shot has to do with good defense is beyond me. The lakers didnt play with heart and soul until game 4 and the pistons proved they are the better team by beating the lakers best effort. until game 4 the pistons didnt beat the laker best and now they did so the pistons are the better team and will be the champs.
  6. I have a Toshiba P4 with 512mb memory. A question. When i start watching videos they play real choppy even to the point that you cant watch them. I used to reboot the laptop but now i use Mastercam V9 sp2 to fix the problem. If the video doesnt work i start mastercam and it fixes the problem. the videos play fine. any ideas what is going on?
  7. i heard it was a part of Reaganomics!!!! so Ronald Reagan started it i guess
  8. You guys must be shaking your head for this question. Thanks for your help.
  9. I have a part from a solidworks IGES file that i imported to MC. The part is upside down how do i rotate it 180 deg?

Thank you for the replies. I deleted the hidden objects and learned a valuble lesson.

    Levels

I am bringing in a solidworks IGES file into mastercam. It comes in on level one. I want to put the whole model on level 10 so i go to screen and so on but when i check to make sure it all transfered to level 10 only half of the stuff went and i cant see the objects that remain on level one. if i do a screen blank unblank i can see the objects but i cant figure out how to move the hidden objects to another level. also if anybody knows why are they hidden?
  12. exactly but how do i do this. I am lost
  13. i am starting with a solid block of acetal plastic. First i rough out the bloc to square it up with a roughing end mill. When i put the block in the vise i need to make sure all sides clean up so i need to offset the tool path .05 in both X znd Y to do this. I would like to automatically do this in mastercam i just dont know how to do it.
  14. I could do that but i want to do it all in mastercam so when I post a program i just load it into the cnc.
  15. I am writing my first complete Mastercam program. I need some help. I need to offset the tool path x.05 y-.05 I know i could move the geometry but i would like to use a setting in mastercam. I am writing this for a Fadal VMC
  16. If i remember correctly i ran a Guildemiester cnc lathe and we had to put the machine in E Stop as part of the shutdown procedure.
  17. I used to cnc program with software called APT. It was great. I wish Mastercam had some of the features of APT like parametric programing for a family of parts.
  18. We machine fiberglass pressure vessels. We use a 1/8 carbide endmill and a 1/4 carbide endmill. I have broken both of them. They both broke because the chips had no where to go so the chips broke the cutter.
  19. Thank you all for your imput. We are not able to correctly grind tools in our shop. I will have to purchase these tools. Can you give me a idea of what to buy? this will be used to engrave letters on a flat piece of aluminum maybe .003 deep or less. this is for my boss so i has to be perfect. i am using a Fadal VMC 4020 pallet changer. 10000 RPM max
  20. i though about center drills but i was worried about the side load and breaking the tool. thank you for your input. i will be engraving shallow letters so i will give it a try.
  21. I need to engrave 6061 Aluminum on a Fadal VMC. Can anybody recommend a cutter i can use? I was thinking of a ball endmill.
  22. we have a old haas lathe and i use Mastercam to send and recieve files. works great.
  23. ok i think i understand now. thank you all for you patience and help. When i backplot the finish pass on the big radius the line it the theoretical intersection of the cutter edges right? and since mastercam knows the cutter radius it will still drive the cutter on the correct path right? Sorry about the confusion here as i am still learning.
  24. i will upload into the mc9 files folder on the FTP site a program i did using the cutter center instead of the edges. i changed it to the cutter edges if you look at the radiuses they appear to be under cut unless it is changed to s g41 or g42 so i must be doing something wrong? the file is example.mc9
  25. i agree that using the edge is ok but when i do the backplot the corners with edge breaks dont come out right without using a g41 or g42 right?
