  1. 2019  has now proven to be a very  reliable  version , 2018 not so much..... The out of the box version needs in my opinion a lot seasoning , especially as there are a lot of toolpaths

that are not available from the ribbons.   Also  the RMB out of the box is barely usable.  But when you re-model the interior to your liking things really take off .

If you'd like to give it one more try , I could send you my  mastercam.workspace file , along with  a list of keyboard shortcuts.

A lot of the people here in Finland that I have influenced have never even tried the out of the box experience and have immediately  jumped into my version of reality.  I call that easy living , because it took me about 2 weeks to figure out  my ground zero version  and  I have been for the past few years constantly improving it .  As a matter of fact ,

just the other day Crazy Millman just showed off his RMB where he has all his Autocursor and  Autocursor Lock  functions as two sub-menus  in the RMB and I intend to  assimilate that .

  2. GPUs are used for number crunching  mainly in Bit coin mining, for us it's just spinning a shaded  representation of the parts either smoothly or not .  To prove this , just do the Benchmark 3.0  with the window minimized or not (i.e. no Grahics  to calculate ). there should be no time difference.   This is not the best example for proving this point, as maybe turning on/off  hardware acceleration would be a more of a difference maker ....

  3. Your part (the plate looking part )is even simpler as  an internal radius is inside the machining area. You must remember  to  force the toolpath to be made by applying the right overthickness.

I was not able to induce a toolpath  creation using old school pencil, but high speed pencil with an overthickness of 6 mm gave me a nice toolpath.

However, since we are talking molds , those "wavy "  cut entrances and exits will make the guy who has to polish this surface curse  you till the end of time.

You need here a toolpath with  one entry and one exit. Here the right choice is High speed spiral, especially since your part is circular.

  4. scallop is not a very efficient toolpath in your case , as scallop does not follow the topology of your geometry , it offsets the limiting boundaries and  this offseting usually has nothing to do with the best way to machine your part .

So my silver bullet  is usually pencil , unlimited . Arc filtering etc is totally off ,  This toolpath  will need internal radii in the machining area for the toolpath to start to "follow" the natural shape of your part ( along an internal  / external fillet rather than across it fro example ).  But in many cases there are ways to induce the toolpath to follow the topology

    of the part.

I think my pic proves my point way better than 7000 words here .    I know that I machined more than you asked for , but as that area near the internal fillet has to be machined anyway ,might as well do it in one go .

  5. Jeff , those things are bacteria nests ! :) There is an internal  cavity  you  can't clean  properly and people are spitting into it !

And stick to the topic ;)

This was two for two ! I mean the second suggestion I made was so whacky .....

  6. One more thing Tim , since I also do mold design, in order to prevent a possible mishap with the file failing, I save the main ASSY  in files that as I progress  get their name ending in a number that gets bumped. So if a file fails , I have a trail of files. ...... But since you said You'd have lost a day  and a half ,  that would not make up for redoing the whole  file, so

    you also leave a trail of files (6-27 , 6-25 .... etc) , I'm  guessing :)

  7. Since anything can be anything ,  I started out in a metric version and as the file is from Gringolandia , mcam changed to Inches and then opened it faultlessly....

Tim , just to rule it out , switch to a metric version and open the file from there ?

  8. Yeah , I also learned it the hard way .  The file  that I had that got corrupted had the  burn coordinates  and I had the electrode already  machined . So up the creek and no coordinates. Then I remembered  , that my electrode machine post posts out  my  WCS / Toolplane  origin post , so  I  EDMed the cavity  using the info from the NC - file  documentation and then manually reconstructed the machining files ( about 1.5 hrs lost )....  For some reason  I wandered into Verisurf and there it was : The "merge CAD files" function, tried it and it worked !  Too late too little for the previous mishap,  but  the knowledge ready for the next time ....

  9. Ok , so in a matter of  4 minutes  , you installed for the first time Verisurf  and successfully  used it to your advantage and then  you  researched  file sharing and sent me the file!

    I  WANT THE SALAD YOU'RE EATING ! :)

  10. yes You actually do , so be careful .

I'm thinking : ID thread  , (always Right hand ) , Top to Bottom  = Conventional

ID thread   (                                )  Bottom to Top    =  Climb

and with OD thread the Bottom to Top = Conventional...
