My line function works the same in 2020 as 2019, make sure you have line settings set to "Freeform" and "two Endpoints"
Yup, same settings. I wouldn't think anything would be different, but it is... Time to contact Mr. Reseller.

So I get into Mastercam 2020, looks good and familiar. I'm seeing the new features and all of it feels natural - until I draw a line. Unless I specify the degree angle/length, I cannot just draw a line at any angle/length that I desire.
What gives?

So, I'm an anal SOB. I like having tool files for my repeaters in the sense that the tool is defined, I can visually see it in MC, and it has the median F/S programmed for it. But I'm having big issues importing this file into the tool form. Normally I would covert this geometry into a .stp file and import, but I keep getting the error, "Problem with custom geometry file or data. Check for gaps, overlaps, or blanked/hidden entities."
Man, MC is crabby!

I'm answering my own questions. Thanks guys. I got it.

Don't use mastercam tool manager. We create custom tools using mastercam itself.
Always more than one way to do things.
Wait, I know how to do this. My question is how to get that tool then into a database file. I like to import tools in this manner.

NOT in Mastercam,,,in the stand alone, correct?
I'm drawing the tool in Mastercam, saving it as a .dxf, and importing that .dxf into the Mastercam Tool Manager and it says NADA.

What version...that worked fine for me in 2019 tool manager?
Strange, I'm running 2019 too. That's it, it's official, I'm cursed...

If DXF still does not work, just try the .mcam file. I know for sure custom tools work off of the mcam file extensions.
But in the Mastercam Tool Manager, when importing a custom file to define the geometry of a tool, it only wants .dxf files.

Tip angle/tool diameter don't intersect.

wrong orientation for dxf format..
Rotate is 90° it so it is in the X-/Y+ quadrant
Tip of the tool at 0,0
Still getting the error, "Problem with custom geometry file or data. Check for gaps, overlaps, or blanked/hidden entities."

I'm going to give it a shot. Now I see what I was doing wrong.

Yeah, it was from a supplier's website, I deleted all of those other lines/layers. Still won't generate. I gave up.
-
Huh... Still doesn't want to work. Gives me error, "Problem with custom geometry file or data. Check for gaps, overlaps, or blanked/hidden entities." Not sure what it making it goofy.

I've had no trouble importing and even creating custom mills for tool libraries, but when I try to create/import a drill I get the error "Tip angle/tool diameter don't intersect." I really don't understand what the error is coming from.

Does your VTL have a Y-axis?
If you can get your Right Angle Head off center, this becomes very easy.
If not, there are still a few ways.
I am also in Milwaukee. I can stop by if you can't share a file.
The VTL I have doesn't have a Y axis - that I am aware of. From everything I've seen I've never used or had the post put out any Y coordinates - but then again I've never done an operation like this. All the milling I've ever seen relates to C and X axes. I guess let me understand, are you offering help? Or services for payment?

Could really use some help. I have a G&L VTL with Siemens controls. Need to cut out the area seen in the attachment. I have the right angle head for it, but I've never had C-axis training and am completely lost on where to begin. Can someone help me with this. Hot job that just got thrown on my desk, I don't know where to start.

Yes, talked to my Mastercam reseller and am paying for the feature. It appears to be way over my head.

- Well, I'm not a pro at post editing, so it unnerves me a bit, but you are correct... I should want to change it.
- I'm going to point the RAH in X+ and X-. I guess it's the terminology I've never heard.
- When I go into the Machine Definition Manager, it doesn't have the RAH Aggregates in the Machine Configuration box, so I think not.
I did contact my Mastercam reseller and they said they are going to configure the post to accept a RAH, but it is going to cost $$$ - even if I pay maintenance, does that sound right?
-
Got a HMC and we have a right angle head for it. I've never programmed for it so I searched the forum and came up with quite a bit of information but am unsure how to execute. So I've gotten this far:
After completing all of my normal machining (no RAH) I created a new machine group and went into the Machine Definition Manager and on the opening screen I can see "Dual Outlet Right Angle Aggregate" and "Four Outlet Right Angle Aggregate". I'm assuming I have to select one of these but three questions:
- By making any changes for this Machine Definition, it will only make changes to this particular machine group, correct? I don't want to make any permanent alterations to the post.
- Which do I use? Dual Outlet Right Angle Aggregate or Four Outlet Right Angle Aggregate? What is the difference?
- Once I determine what aggregate to use, what do I do to apply it?
Could really use some help. Thanks in advance.

Try forcing the string variable sgwcs where ever you want it output.
And how to do this? In the .pst file?

Here you go:
I'll be honest, I don't even know where to post that. I know that most guys on here have a in-depth knowledge of Mastercam, but I never got that kind of training or have messed around with it. If I was more knowledgeable, I'm sure I could do something with this, but at this point I'm not there.
Thanks though.
WTF? Drawing Lines in Mastercam 2020...

My situation is different. Create a line and instead of Freeform, pick Vertical or Horizontal. That is how my line creation is, but my Freeform is like Vertical and Horizontal combined.
