I agree everyone should change over fully to the metric system in this day and age.
In Ireland we are all metric except for when i am dealing with my Americian customers. This means that i have to stock both metric and imperial tooling and measuring equipment.
When i get a new apprentice it is hard to train him/her to use the imperial system as he /she has been bought up for 17-18 years in school in metric.

Yep.
In Europe it is mostly Metric. All our machines are set up for metric but we can work in imperial if we want to. 99.99% of our work is metric.
Why is the States the only country that uses the imperial system 99% of the time?
Sure no problem Trevor.

I am going to email you a data sheet for carbide tools for different materials that I got from my supplier. Just enter the diameter and surface speed from the chart and it will give you rpm and feed.
I hope that thiswill help you.

Hi Cadcam.
I got the file from my tool designer who is on holidays at the moment.
I needed to convert the mastercam file to autocad 14 so that i can inport into my wire package, so that i can wire the spline shut off and slots in my cavity plate.
The reason i need dwg format is that i don't have Mastercam Wire until the end of next week.
Thanks for your help Cadcam.

While we were training in our training centre we were using Maho machining centres. One day one of the lads entered the z value wrong with a rapid traverse and sent the table of the machine up into the spindle and did some major damage. Boy did he go RED !!

The file is too big to post onto cadcams server. It is 42mb which i can't understand why it is because it is only a small drawing, so maybe this is causing the problem.
My reseller is coming next week to install Mastercam Wire so I will show him when he comes down.
Thanks for your help anyway.

The entities in the file are mostly splines so dxf format will not work.
Cadcam that is right. I got the dwg converter yesterday and everything is ok until you start to convert. It does nothing for a short while and then the error comes up.

I have a mastercam drawing that I need to convert into dwg format. When I convert the drawing I keep getting this error
"This program has performed an illegal operation and will close down".
I have rebooted the computer to see if this would solve the problem but it did not help.
Would any of you have any ideas as to what is causing this.
Thanks.

I was going from English to Metric. The value I used was 1*25.4 and it scaled it up perfect.
So thanks for all your help again

I analyzed the surfaces and there was a sharp corner hidden in one area. I ignored the warning and it seems ok.
I have machined the component and the toolpath was ok with no gouges. So thanks for the help
I am machining a couple of curved surfaces. When i go to create the toolpath i get this warning.
A sharp corner was found within a single surface. For best results remodel the surface
There is no sharp corner in the geometry so what causes this warning?
Thanks Cadcam.
I checked out the book from the learning section before my last post to you about it being suitable for begineers and I did not notice your change to the title.
Nice joke
