  1. Old' George claims he used to do C++, but says he is getting an A+ in java classes . anyway his theory is with processor, bus and memory speeds going up the way they do it will not be an issue in a couple years. Jim
  2. Just checked mine- under 250Meg and I do have all the samples loaded- 2d,3d and multax.
  3. I know a freak in Wisconsin that developed his own rastor-to-vector style cad cam software that uses Java. I showed him mastercam V7 and he was impressed at the "associativity" stuff, however he didn't like the inability to directly read EPS files. Bullines- because it is Java based wouldn't it work multi-platform? Do you "like" Java?
  4. Mastercam for Linux............ Hmmm..... Trevor- Mastercam ran just ducky as a stand alone app with those tnt cards. I could close mastercam and open up 20 other apps- no problem. If mastercam was open, I couldn't even open word without the screen hanging. (no bsod, just a lockup requiring reboot). Once hardware acceleration was off- the problem went away. Remember though- I haven't tried it with V8, only 7.x. I have one of the TNT's left and if you want it send me a box with a couple stamps. Jim
  5. The oxygen cards have always been a good cad card. As for a gateway- From personal experience also I put them in front of compaq and compaq in front of the now defunct in america packard bell. I do know I have set up 2 seperate Nvidias riva tnt2's on an Abit bp6,an abit va6 and a supermicro p3dme motherbord and with win 98 and the old nt4 sp4 I couldn't run anything with mastercam without it crashing. I tried the va6 with win98 to rule out smp as a problem and even yanked one of the celerons from the bp6- same results. Pay for shipping and I will send you a tnt2. Jim on a bad day
  6. Thanks. I'll check it out. Jim
  7. Is there a way to do a "best fit" between two closed contours in mastercam? Kinda like inspection software for CMM's? It would save me hours a month. Thanks again- Jim......................
  8. You don't have to be on the internet to get a virus, but it does help! Anyone else here had a problem with Nvidia's glorious riva TNT? I had nothing but problems. (I get a vision of a bat shaped projection on the clouds above- calling for Bullines!)
  9. You do have a point, Jay. I'm wiping out a computer tonight that even after norton repaired the infected files it still didn't work very well. It was an old win98 box and by morning it will be win2kpro, ntfs. I've tightened up virus security here substantially since I found over 200 infected files on the above mentioned computer, 5 different viruses. Jim
  10. Daryl, I can't get a Riva tnt2 to run anything with mastercm without crashes unless I turn video acceleration completely off. I don't know if a new driver has been released since I got rid of the Riva, but I don't think that is your entire problem either. See if Gateway will swap your cards out for a couple of anything with the GeForce256 chipset (stay away from the MX versions). You can run your current cards on high color if you turn the hardware acceleration down to "none". As for the slow backplots, the only time I had a slow backplot problem my dealer told me to do a "save some/ all entitys" and name it something else. I re-chained the part and backplot was back to normal. Someone else on this forum might have an explanation for this, I don't. Hope it helps......... Jim
  11. www.reverse-it.com Has some excellent and not too pricy software for portable CMM's that ties it in with MasterCam. It's a place to start........ Jim

BSA, I saw them with the Look and the romantics at Cobo Arena in '81.
  13. Daryl, Need much more info. Computer configs including operating systems, processor/memory/video configs, info locally or from network drives, are you mapping if from networks, etc. Jim
  14. It even gives you a warning- "selected entities have toolpath associations which will be lost, do you wish to continue?" I run in to this almost daily with dual- bowl sink cutouts that the customer calls up and wants the overhang changed on. I can go around and offset all the curves individually 6mm and regenerate-no problem. All 45 or so of them. It ends up being faster to offset contour and rechain. (why is this bothering me more today than the 3+ years previous?) Thanks all- Jim
  15. Why does "offset contour" destroy associativity on a 2d contour? I can offset a zillion lines individually and regenerate, no problem. Jim
  16. What happened to oldday? Member # 1038?
  17. Thank you James for your reply. No, it uses a regular "M6" for toolchange which does call a sub. The sub routine I'm trying to dupe keeps a constant pressure against the part during polishing, reading the pressure factor from the tool register, ties it in with spindle draw, then corrects the diameter in the register at the end of the routine. Comp in controller. However, I'm not asking anyone for post mods, I just want to understand the language and maybe get some manuals on it. There are all kinds of tricks a person could do if the manufacturer would let someone in on the code. Maybe I want to understand the un-understandible............ Jim
  18. I was going to post that link but I wasn't sure if it was "cool" or not with management, being this is a MASTERCAM forum. Looks like applicon has been around for years and I can't find a bad article on it yet. I'm taking a good educated guess that since unigraphic$ ha$ bought it the price ha$ ju$t gone beyond a normal budget. Jims humble opinion
  19. I've heard of a conversational program called "Intercon", but never applicon. Anyone else? Just found it. Must be a flavor of unigraphic$. Jim [ 09-30-2001: Message edited by: JAMMAN ]
  20. Hello all, I sent a file to the fabulous FTP site called "s10code.zip". It's in the "all nc programs" folder. Has anyone seen this before? Test.s10 is the program and S10stone.cff is the post to create it. The machine reseller knows nothing and the controller manufacturer says parts of it are propriatary and there is no way to get a map from the machine manufacturer. How much of this is BS I'm not quite sure, and parts of the code I have allready added to my Mastercam post. There is one specific routine it uses that I haven't been able to reverse to my post because it calls subs allready in the controller, a little beyond what I have had to deal with in the past.Any clues would be helpful. I am the only person on the planet that is using Mastercam to drive these Italian paperweights. Jim
  21. Mine does 359.9 in one arc. I can see 359.99 but don't think it is possible for 360. the end of the arc would be at the first xy move, how would the controller know to move at all just seeing I's J's and/or K's? Jim
  22. I just uploaded "2211 undermount" to the fabulous FTP site (thank you Jay). This is how I'm doing it now. Is there any way to pick the drill hole as the start and end of contour without having to do the fancy entry/exit thing? Note: since this is rock I am cutting- if I drop the cutout without support which I often do, the little 90 degree turn keeps it from flaking off. Jim
  23. I tried what I thought you explained and I couldn't make it happen. It gives me an option for "strt" but I can't find the one for exit. This would help me in my daily routines if someone can figure out what basic step I am missing. Jim
  24. Interesting. Brian, are you running 98 or 2k? Jim
  25. Hey guys- This "disappearing cursor" thing has come up so many times now- doesn't anyone have enough pull to get someone at CNC who knows the problem together with someone at NVIDIA who can solve this evidently common problem? I'm about ready to buy a "MX" so I can figure it out myself. One post mentioned loading an older driver- does anyone have an original disk from the original MX or something? Lots of brains on this forum, I'm sure someone knows someone that knows someone that has a solid solution? Jim
