  1. Hello all, I am having a tough time getting arc outputs when doing a threadmill operation. I get point to point XYZ, when I would like a G3 I ### Z### move. The point to point method is waaaay too large for my control. I cant find any filter setting in the threadmill parameters. Any help much apreaciated.

    Thanks

  2. I have found many problems when using multiple wcs's in the same file when doing 5x work. I talked to my re-seller many times about it and he said that it has problems, so just have one wcs, and then create named views to do whatever you need, never have more than one wcs in a 5x file. that is what he told me and have had no trouble since. hope that helps

  3. Since this is the most popular thread at the moment anyonoe know of a very good carbide cold saw. I am looking for a saw that can hold +or- .005. I know its a tall order, but what the heck. Thanks in advance

PS crap.dll was funny as hell

  4. Thank you Peter, all I wanted to hear is that they were working on it. In the past, I heard a few about the farming it out thing, and that was sort of the end of it. If they are looking into it, and trying to improve it, I am satisfied. Have a great day all

  5. There are more excelent micros around here than I could possible count, It is definately a nice place to live. We might have to wait till westec, or IMTS, as I think my boss would shat if I tried to send a beer ups red.

Verify in Mastercam is FREE OF CHARGE. It's the best it has ever been. They put this function in Mcam for you, the end user. It costs them money to have it developed by another party, who has no clue about CNC manufacturing. True, the WCS can cause hiccups in this FREE software function"

I could have sworn that I paid $$$ for the true-solids verify.

If you want more reliable toolpath verification, invest in actual code verification software. I'd much rather be satisfied that the CAM end of the software works as efficiently or better than the previous version. Verify will improve, as it has in every release since it's inclusion in the main product.

When I was sold Mastercam noone ever said the verification was free, I was sold a " CAM package that included verification" If they had said, or if any literature had hinted at verify being free, I could understand as typically you get what you pay for. I am not saying it a complete POS, just that I feel it is not up to snuff with the rest of the package and it needs work. With all the dollars we paid for it, and now with maintenance what is wrong with asking them to adress what many feel to be weak points in the software? As far as them farming out the verify side, how is that anything but a lame a$$ed excuse? I know that wouldn't fly with any of our customers. sorry it doesnt work, we farmed out a small part of the job????

I think its appropriate and important for people to speak up when something is not up to their standards, otherwise it will more than likely never get fixed.

  7. I have had much trouble with verify when doing multiple ops, and many other instances where my stl's were not watertight. I do not have solidworks, so that option is out for me. I would love to know what your guys' tricks are to get better results out of verify. I have tried all the tricks, that i have found by searching this forum, but have had less than reliable results, any help would be greatly appreaciated.

But in reply to the other posters in this thread, I too believe that CNC software should do something to adress this issue, especially now that we are paying maintenance, That amount of cash would go a long way IMHO.

  8. dang its really been a while, and I cant remember exactly how it goes. but i believe it is something like g61.1 K 0-100. What I would do is run the program off the part, put in a K of say 1, see what happens, and then try a 100, hopefully the differance will be very noticable. I will try to write more later on today as things are nuts right now.

  9. G61.1 only looks ahead 5 blocks, if your block size is very small point to point this is probably not enough. you will have to either loosen the tolerance in G61.1 with a K value I believe, or use the higher end look ahead package which is g5.

  10. I have nothing but great things to say for all of you here at this forum. I was just using those as examples where people, or maybe just me, can be let down when the sales pitch touts well known weakness as absolute strengths. Thats just not right, and is not directly cnc software's problem, i understand that. Mastercam is #1 in installed seats, well multiply that by the average seat price, and you will see close to a 10 digit number. So from my point of view it would seem that they would have the resources to do anything they wanted to. I really don't hate mastercam, and I do like this forum a lot, I am just suspicious of large companies in general.

  11. I will probably get flamed for this, but here goes. This may just be in my case, but for the price you pay, I have pretty high expectations for Mcam. Most of the time it meets them, but there are a few cases where it falls short. Those being, transform toolpath mirror, edit common parameters, and a lot of work needs to be done in the verify department along the lines of in process stock. These 3 things were all used HEAVILY in the sales pitch that I recieved that got me to buy mastercam. Shame on me for not doing more homework maybe, but I trusted the guy, and the size of the user base. I understand that all software has bugs, and I am not claiming that there is any better cam software out there right now, but I really do expect a little more from such a large and well funded company. I am not trying to put down mastercam, as I am generally very happy with it, but at some point you have to ask why wont it do what I was told it would do?

Ahh I feel better now, sorry for the rant, and I'll start putting on the fire-retardant gel now

  12. Thanks for all the replies guys, I really do appreaciate it. I don't think my applications would be good for hsk, as we have to hang out some tools pretty far. Whatever we get, it will definatly be big plus. One other question though, we already have a mori mv653, that is not big plus, what would happen if someone stuck a big plus holder in that machine?

    Thanks again

  13. I was always of the mindset that makino's are better for lighter cutting, and very tight tolerance stuff. Our tolerances arent all that tight, +- .003 most of the time. Do they have models that are box wayed? I am looking to take some pretty heavy cuts with this thing. 6" facemill .2 deep 5" stepover kinda stuff.

  14. We might be looking to buy a good sized multi-pallet horizontal soon. It will be taking very heavy cuts in tool steel. I am looking at Mori, and probably mazak, anyone else out there got any suggestions for other machine builders I should be looking at?

    all advice appreaciated
