  1. anyone here been getting emails from recruit/netpeople?
  2. well, without knowing more about the set-up, i would go with a brazed carbide tip drill for the 1.375 hole, take it to depth, ~ 1-9/32" brazed carbide drill to depth for the 1.308 dia., semi-finish and bore or ream. i keep all those tools in stock, so its no problem for me. the brazed carbide virtually eliminates the need to spot a hole. if it was going to to be a very large quantity of parts, i would suggest something else. the brazed carbide drills are not cheap.

    waay OT

i havent been around much so maybe this has been discussed, but i was wondering if you guys frequent any other forums(non-work related) kinda like for-fun forums, keep you busy in between the xyz and boss yelling for parts.
  4. before i make a comment about tooling(and i would, really, i would), how many pieces, can you purchase tooling, do you have a budget, is time a large factor?
  5. i have one at work, i'll check tomorrow. sorry, at home right now.

  7. quote: I suggest caution on materials that like to shrink onto the cutting tool (Copper, Brass, etc...) but for Cast Iron, and Steel - "J1000" yeah, i tend to stay away from the rapid retract with aluminum, copper, brass. i also dont care to use it on extremely small taps, the smallest chip and the tap likes to go snap. quote: Tell me more about this peck tapping as I am now intrigued I can see where this would definintely help me in some applications Mike, thanks for the pass on the wiseass response; this is shaping up to be a lousy week ok, i'll save the sarcasm for a better week. as for the peck cycle with rigid tapping: G84.1 Z-1. R0. J3 K.25 P2 J = retract rate K = peck depth P = number of reverse spindle revolutions for chip break this is only on the Lancer we have with 2100 controls. dunno about this feature on other machines.
  8. quote: OK; now I'm really confused How, exactly, can you triple the feed on retract with a tap? Can I assume that the speed is also tripled? i will forgo the smart aleck comment but yeah, the speed and feed can be tripled exiting tapped holes. simple modifier to the canned cycle. example: G84.1 Z-1. R0. J3 <---- the "J" is a modal feedrate multiplier. J3 triples feedrate, J2 would double the exit feedrate... in fact, you can also peck with a tap on our machine
  9. alright, i browsed through most of this, so pardon me if it has been repeated. oh, and excuse me please if this is not the consensus of everyone... if you use a compression type tap holder for rigid tapping, you are defeating the purpose. if the holder compresses in the least, you have just made rigid tapping pointless. the whole point is synchronous spindle motion. the 2100 controls (and others) are nice because you can slow the spindle speed down to nothing manually and the tap slows down in relation, check for clearance..whatever. i program for a lancer 1250 with a2100 controls at times. there are two different g codes for tapping...G84 for compression type and G84.1 for rigid tapping. i always program for rigid tapping. you can triple the feedrate exiting a hole, always nice. another feature with rigid tapping...tap the hole, check your thread depth, retap the hole if its shallow. its also nice when you dont have to search the whole shop for an odd ball tap adapter when you can use an endmill/collet holder. not that its the best way of doing things.

  11. quote: Is it offered at our reseller, somewhere more "local" for us? i dont believe it is offered by our reseller. but yes, cncsoftware has a two day class on posts, check out their website for pricing and dates. i feel the price is reasonable. i was unaware that there was a cd? i do have the book, is the cd an updated version of the book? and thanks for the replies [ 08-23-2002, 09:32 AM: Message edited by: mikeb ]
  12. anyone here taken the post class that is offered at cnc software? if so, what did you think of it. thanks in advance
  13. What sort of things are you including now? Are you looking for particular applications, i.e. molds, tombstone work, solid modeling, etc.?
  14. No, No, you misunderstand me. I was in no way attempting to be serious, entirely facetious, sarcasm. It was in line with James Mayette's comment awhile back. Us programmers have to joke around once in a while to keep sane. Piracy is theft, not much more to it.

  16. i had to respond to this one. that was hilarious. and then we have this: - I LOVE THE WORLD!!! Please don't remove this thread because I LOVE EVERYONE. Hugs & Kisses, flowers for everyone, think only good thoughts people with a good sense of humor and alittle sarcasm are always appreciated here. all that serious stuff was making my head hurt and the voices were getting louder. bravo for getting us back on track.
