Hi, I am new to mastercam. I have used mastercam to cut out easy 2D profiles on the FADAL CNC 88HS that I work on at the machine shop at my university, but now I am looking to make the CAM for a 4-axis operation and I don't know where to begin. I would greatly appreciate some guidance on this. I have included the engineering drawing of the part I am trying to make below. Here is a video of a very similar operation I am trying to perform (skip to 1:27): RADIAL_DIFFUSER.pdf

I have a tiny little conundrum that I am very certain can be solved by checking just 1 option, and I am an idiot for not finding it. I am programming a 4-axis wire profile but in our application, the resulting slug would be VERY large (piece is 7.48 inches in length) and our idea is to program the profile as a pocket and burn all the material out. Trouble is, I can't figure out how to have the toolpath setup to burn up the drop out slug. Pictured is my current simulator view from the top. The bottom profile is smaller than the slot above so this does require 4 axis. The slot width is .100" so my thought is to manually draw out the tool paths and do separate 4-axis settings, then use the final rought and 2x skim passes to clean it up. Any ideas though? I feel like there is 1 setting I am missing that would just do this automatically.

I'm modifying the generic 4-axis mastercam post. Everything is working great, except when I post the rotational axis is is off by 90 degrees with the coordinate system I like using. Is there a way to change this? I know I can just change my coordinate system, however I was trying to avoid doing this. Thanks for the help.

Hi -- I need to configure a post processor for a Toyoda FA550ii with a GE Fanuc Series 16i-M. This is my first time programming for a 4 axis HMC, and my reseller has suggested using the generic HMC post. Does anybody have any experience with this machine, or better, have experience configuring a post for this machine? Any help would be appreciated. -Bret Vanderhyden Goleta, California
