2021 with Update 2 - file error

Was waiting on the  Update 2 patch before switching to 2021.

Got it loaded up and configured.

Built some models, programmed the part,

then went to merge in models from another file using "Shift and drag" to merge the file into the Mcam window from explorer.

(Something I've done thousands of times before)

File was saved, then went to re-open the file and now get this with no models now:

Any ideas what causes this?

Not a good start with 2021.........

Not a good start with 2021.........

If you import geometry from an existing file, it needs to be resaved in 2021 first.

Ctrl + drag to merge, as of 2020 i think,  the version does not matter if you are going from earlier to later version.

The geometry that is being imported has to be saved as 2021 first?

So, I have to go save hundreds of existing files as 2021 before importing now?

That just doesn't make sense....

Use the migration wizard to copy all the files and update them one time.

The changes to the pNoteEnt class(Most likely) cause major compatibility issues with 2021 update 2.

I have been using MC2021 since before the first public beta and have never seen this problem

but, I have never used  CTRL/Drag either.

I have never had any problem with earlier version files using File/Merge though

Maybe the problem is using CTRL/Drag on files that predate the development of CTRL/Drag  ????

I had issues importing using nesting sheets made in older versions.

The ref number is R-24690

Link to similar issue.

Easy, if the op saves and imports the geometry, and it works, then we have proof of the defect.

I have just tested the Ctrl + drag to merge in 2021 with X5, X9, 2017-2020 files with no issues.

Files merged as expected. I can't speak for nesting as i don't do/use it.

Did those files have Machine Groups already attached or just Models?

I was merging an X9 file with a UMC-750 Machine Group into a 2021 file with a Haas Vertical Machine Group.

Need to do more experimenting with this......

Update 2 with an active toolpath group right?

Yes, the latest and greatest. Although I am still using 2020.

When merging it only brings in the geometry, If i drag and drop (to open) then it brings in the toolpaths.

The only time I get an error is if the machine def and post do not match.

I don't see an option in merge to bring in toolpaths.

Just open the file in your version of choice and change your machine in toolpath parameter files and execute

I meant with an active toopath group.

Even with an active toolpath group, when I merge it does not bring in the toolpaths only the geometry.

Correct to bring in toolpaths you need to select import operation with geometry.
