HELP...Mill Essentials 2021 Exercise #6 solid extrude issue

I am trying to cut body 1"  deep step 8 places into the solid I have created, but all I get are these walls (see attached word doc).

I have tried going back and redoing the trim extend and join with the no change when it comes to extruding. 

I have tried selecting with chain and partial chain.

Going by your photos as I don't have the tutorial....I would say that you need to make those chains into boxes that extend just past the part. Then do your Solids - Extrude - Cut body using the boxes. They can essentially be any shape once outside your part.

See this video. To extrude - cut with the lines that are there you need to break some of them at intersections.

Turn off the Thin Wall option

Also, you need to extend the lines past the solid you're trying to cut and create boxes, then use those boxes to subtract from the main solid.

 I ended up translating the levels and extruded the bottom separate from the top and cut body the hole through and counterbore.

Now to work on the toolpath portion of the exercise.
