Converting Maya to Mastercam

Does anyone know of a way to convert Maya files to mastercam?

It seems that Maya format can be converted to IGES ?(if I remember good )

If so ,you can convert Iges to Mastercam format

through File->converters->iges->read file command

IGES's the first format to try when I want to translate another CAD model.

Btw, are MAYA models tesselated data like STL or NURBS?

IMHO ,Maya models are meshed surfaces

Maya is NURBS. It is supposed to be able to export IGES files but I am having trouble getting it to do that. Thanks for the help.

Ah just figured it out. I am using the PLE version of maya at home. I will have to try it when I go back to work Monday. Thanks again.

Any connection with Unreal Tournament ?

Do you know you can mill models from Unreal tournament 2003-2004 ?!?

I had read on one of the pages I looked at yesterday that Ut was able to do that but I haven't tried it yet. I have used the editor from the original UT but haven't tried the one from 2003 yet. Will have to give it a look.

Level design for UT2003-2004 is made in Maya partly ,IMHO .

Yeah it probably is. One quick question so I don't have to go looking again. How do I port the unreal ed files to mastercam?

I used to use maya/alias to model with and always used iges to get into mc or pro/e.

 

Used to be able to take the animations and stop at specific frame and out put that frame as iges. Was great for asthetic stuff when you werent sure what the designer had in mind.

Yeah I am going to try that at work tomorrow all I have is the PLE version at home. They just got maya so I haven't used it much. The PLE version is free so I got it to learn a little bit on it at home but it will only save files in it's own format so you can't use it for commercial purposes.

Hi hillbilly welcome to forum,

You can also see if there is any chances of converting your file to 3ds format which even autocad will read or if you can open it in 3d max you can easily create igs files. and stl files which can be used to genrate toolpath in mastercam.

Unrealed export function has an option to save in stl format

In mastercam you can file->convertors->stl->read file .

I am very busy now but in near future I have plans for some stuff from Unreal Tournament 2004 .
