need help with advanced mill tutorial 4

I'm having a hard time with Advanced mill tutorial 4, to be more specific page 311 when it asks you to trim to curves.  It tells you to pick one of the surfaces on the revolved section of the part but instead highlighting the one section of the surface I need to create an operation on it highlights the entire part.

You have a solid instead of a surface. This tutorial is on creating surfaces.

I must've missed where it said to go into the surfaces tabs makes sense why it wasn't working now, I appreciate the help.
