surface roughing

When I use Surface Rough Pocket the toolpath always wants take the first cut about .020 above the surfaces. Almost everytime this is a wasted pass because it is above my material and is cutting air. I was wondering if there is anything I can change in my parameters to eliminate this pass. I've tried a few things but nothing has worked.

Go to your "Rough Parameters" and click on the "cut depths" button. This will add a lot of control for you. You can read the help ( ? mark in the upper right corner) from there. It is very explanatory.

Just be careful as they say this is supposed to be fully associative and it is not. There are times that I have had where if I move the model, everything stayed associative but the "cut depths".

Also in absolute try using detect flats and tick adjust for stock to leave on drive surfaces.

This will give you the Min Max deepths of cut.Now highlite the Min deepth go to end of the figure in the box and minus your deepth of cut that you are taking.

Now the first cut will be your deepth of cut under the highest point plus stock amount.
