pencil toolpath

I am trying to use Surface, Finish, Pencil Toolpath in a pocket with vertical walls. The radius in the corner is 1/16" and I am using an 1/8" ball end mill. It doesn't seem to be working and the tool just plunges in a few areas. Does anyone have some suggestions to fix this problem. Thanks!

Try using a 3/16 or bigger ballnose. Maybe with the radii being size for size it's throwing it for a loop.

Are you sure there's still stock in the corners? What kind of tool did you rough it with?

i tell it that im using a .1252 ball and that works. or make your fillets on the model smaller

Are you using check surfaces?

Pencil doesn't like checks and tends to plunge.

I've tried changing the diameter of my cutter (smaller and bigger) but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm not using any check surfaces either.

...don't select the fillet surface as a drive surface. Try just selecting the floor and wall surfaces and see if that changes anything...

I tried unselecting the fillet surfaces and it worked great! Thanks Steve F

Thanks for sending the file to me via e-mail. After reading the above post between you and Steve, I thought you had a solution. But, after analysizing the fillets, they were larger that .0625 (the radius of the cutter). So, by removing them will cause too sharp of corners, unless that is what you want.

 

I was able to accomplish what I thought you needed by adding the flat surface you used to split the part.

PS I have MC v9 SP2, the file you sent was v8, or I would send it back to you. Sorry, I don't have v8 installed here.
