scale within a polygon

Hi, Joel. Welcome to the forum.

If you make a 6 sided polygon with a one inch radius your measurements [from endpoint of line to the furthest endpoint from that endpoint]will be 2 inches [the diameter of the 1 inch radius]This is due to the fact that you have 60 degree corners.

If you need to scale a 5 by 4 rectangle to achieve a 5.125 by 4.125 rectangle, you will have to scale it non-uniformly [XYZ in scale dialog box - scale the 5" using a 1.025 value and the 4" using a 1.03125 value, merely dividing 5.125/5 and 4.125/4].

NOTE: a 5x4 square does not exist by definition. It is a rectangle. Squares have all 4 sides of equal length.

I'm just being a peon. bonk.gif I know you knew that already!

If so, when done Joel, count me in. biggrin.gif

joeldiaz,

If you want to Scale the squares(rect.) to 5.125 X 4.125 from 5 X 4, why not use Offset Contour from the XForm menu (Xform/Ofs ctr). This will allow for the distance offset (.125") instead of trying to scale non-uniformly as Roy_23 suggested. Not that Roy's wrong, it's just a little harder than Offsetting the contour of the rectangle. Or you could Create/Next menu/Polygon and produce your polygon shape based on the overall diameter of the exterior circle or interior circle, as PhilCott suggested above. HTH
