we have 4 machines w/dataservers.

we want to hook-up all 4 data servers thru a hp-procurve 2626 switch.......which is then connected to our dnc server and network.

right now we have 2 computers with 2 ethernet

cards communicating with these dataservers. we would like to consolidate all of our machine communications thru our dnc server whether it be to the machine control or dataserver.

is this possible?

thanks in advance.....

Hi Ken,

Yes. The DNC package should have a built-in FTP server to accomplish this. There are several on the market. I would assume since you are talking dataserver - these machines are Fanuc controllers? They have what is called an FTP client built into them. Some machine builders have implemented client and server based controllers but Fanuc was not one of them. The FTP Client allows you to specify the IP address of the FTP Server and "pull" (GET) or "push" (PUT) files to and from them. This allows increased security because the controller is initiating the commands - Not like the old 'auto-loaders' that you could push a file into the memory of a controller and potentially cause issues on the control side. If you need some direction or advice, feel free to give me call.

What are you trying to accomplish by removing the two pc's? You're going to find that using the pc is easier and quicker to load programs into the dataserver than the control. If you're only sending one file to the control a couple times a day it may not be so bad, but if you're sending tool length files, probe files, using more than one directory, ect.. it's going to be cumbersome.
