ramp from entry point

Hi all

 

I know this question has been brought up numerous times but i can not seem to get my cutter to ramp in from a specified entry point. I chained the circle that i am pocketing and also chained the created point where i want my cutter to ramp in from. All attempts have failed, any suggestions.....

When i check 'ramp from entry point', the cutter starts at the right point but it takes away the ramping function.

Is there enough room for the cutter to ramp? What size pocket versus cutter size, I mean.

 

Gotta take off for the day, e-mail the file if you need to. I could check it out in da morning if you haven't got it by then

I think you have to chain the point first then the circle. Also the point should be to be .01 or so above the top of stock.

Absolutely correct, BernieT. The point MUST be chained FIRST. It will not work if the point is second.

 

BUT - "use entry point" is not an option under the "ramp" type of contour. I typically set up my lead-in / lead-out to start in the center of the circle for ramp type toolpaths.

hey guys, I created the point about .100 off the surface, and chained the point fisrt and still i have had no luck.

 

As far as how big the pocket is compared to the cutter, pocket size = 6.000 and cutter size is 1.000 dia.

One more thing i forgot to add. If i choose the helix function it seems to work just fine. Starts dead on in the center of the pocket.

The helix function works nicely for this, but you have to know what your circle size is - you cannot just "select" the arc to helix mill.

Do you have a 'Depth' set for the pocket?

Personnally, I prefer the helix method. Very verstile! Always with depth of cut added. I've even use to rough out a boss dia. with good luck. I've even used for face mill eith 45 leading edge.

I can do that in contour, but in ramp this feature is disable. any suggestion please...

No way I am aware of. Not sure why you would need to. With Ramp you are going to be cutting through the feature you have picked to drive the toolpath. Set the Top of Stock higher if you are worried about slamming the tool into material and call it a day.
