Mill flats

Hi everyone.

 

I'm new to MC so I hope this comes out right.

 

I have created a round disc 1 inch thick in MC. I'm trying to mill a flat on one edge. The disc is 5" in diameter. The flat has to be .200" In from the outer diameter. The way I was trying to do this was to create a rectangle in the front construction plane the move it out to the diameter so I can extrude .200" into the side. The problem is that when I go to contour the flat the verify shows it cutting around the rectangle.

 

Can anyone help??

What plane is your toolpath in? Top or front?

 

Can't quite visualize it, but sounds like your toolpath is "chaining" the geometry, running around the rectangle. Re-select your desired geo and hit chain > single.

The simplest geometry you need is just a line at depth of 1" .200 in from the disk edge. Do a contour toolpath using that line.

if i am reading this right

 

just draw a line .200 in from outer dia

or 2.30 from center.make sure you extend

your line past the outer dia. but not to far

maybe .03 or so, then do your contour toolpath

I created the geometry for the disc in the top cplane then i created the rectangular box in the front cplane.But i am cutting from the top.

Maybe you could "Create" the Rectangle in top plane at a "Z" of 2.3.

 

Then "Pocket" the Rectangle.

One hint, when selecting Geo for toolpath, I always use Iso view top plane. I think it's easier to see in real terms.
