what associated entities?

This morning I imported an Iges file into Mastercam. After convertion, the file contained 62 lines, 12 arcs, 10 splines and 17 trimmed surfaces.

I created a solid from the surfaces, (solids/from-surfaces)deleting the origional surfaces.

What was interesting is that when I attempt to delete 2 of the lines, MC asks if I would like to also delete associated entites.

I said "yes", and did not notice any ill effects, but I was wondering what the association could be. Is there a method to see what those lines could be associated with?

They were probably blanked. Go to screen unblank and see what is there.

check your solid...does it need re-generation?

 

did you delete an entity that was used to create the solid? (blanked or not)

There is some sort of an association between the lines I was erasing and a blanked entity. However since they were blanked, I would not think that there could be an association.

I can erase everything, which was unblanked without affecting the solid and since I was just trying to get a solid and because the solid was unaffected by erasing anything else, I guess this will consider this an unexplained phenomenon.

Be carefull with blanked entities brought in with the IGES file (like the untrimmed surfaces). The display is blanked, but they are still needed to define the trimmed surface.

The lines are probably associated with "curve generated surfaces" imported from Iges.

 

Make a "Modify/XtoNURBS" to convert all surfaces to Nurbs. (removes surface associativity with lines/arcs)
