lolipop cutter problems

i am trying to use a lolipop cutter on

a sloped surface and it is gouging my part

for some reason. it moves up for no apparent

reason. please help

This was just touched on, welcome to the forum, I do not have a seat anymore, but do a search, I have used lollipops and reversed taper tooling in the past with a lot sucess. But I would defin, do a search, which toolpath are you using?

i am using flowline toolpath and for some

reason the cutter goes down the inclined surface

but makes a move up thus gouging my part.

i don't understand why the cutter doesn't just

follow the surface without the move up.

Are you talkin when it finishes at the bottom, is it a suface you can extend?

Have you tried to change your step directions?

Is the tool doing an unwanted retract?

If so then you can look at the gaps setting...

On the flowline parameters page and the gap settings page, turn off your gouge protection and the tool will move away from the part before the z retract. Sounds a little scary at first but if you backplot and verify that you have good toolpath you should be okay.

Try turning off your arc filter. I had this problem a while back and that was the fix. I always leave the gouge checks on. Also try rough contour. I use rough contour for all my undercutting. I use multiple surfaces with several blended surfaces and fillets and flowline doesn't work very well. The update with V9.1 said you could use rough pocket but I can't get it to work properly with a lolipop. I have had some lolipip cutters custom made by Melin (1/2 with .340 shank) that I use every day.
