Okuma 4VA mill communications

Hello,

I have 2 Okuma mills and I need to set up Cimmco edit to communicate with them. I have done this in the past and I am having trouble. Could anyone give me a general run through? I am missing something, all I get is garbage and no handshaking at all. I have the original cables that were previously used and am having trouble.

Thanks.

Hail you.

I'm a huge Okuma Fan,so I have to add my 2 cents.

I currently program for fanuc controls, I had a problem communicating with a pro 3 fanuc. Looked at settings until I turned blue. I had been communicating with that machine with another PC in the past with no problems. Settings we're the same as used for an 15m control. 15 control had no problems. pro3 garbage.

I found a link telling me to turn fifo buffer off

in Control panel ports. For the port used for this machine. Also I have read other issues to this buffer in regards to comm. with some controls.Seems to fix several issues.

Hope this Helps

Hey know anybody running OSP2200's?

Chris

just a thought, what does the beginning of your program look like?

it should look like this:

$PROG1234.MIN%

You CANNOT have numbers first, must be a letter.

Also to read at the machine, I dont type in the whole name I just type this: "tt:" and to send its this: ",tt:" without the quotation marks.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for,but I hope it helps.

4VA's have a 5020 control. You need to set the parameters in the word and long word pages correctly. There are also some bits that need set for file name recognition or not. since you're getting data I'd suspect baud rate and stop bits. baud needs to be 4800 and I believe our stop and data bits were miss matched in order for predator to send readable data, odd, 7, 1 or something like that.

Hi,

Yeah 5020 controls can be fun. Bob has some good advice above - but the spot to look at is in Optional bit parameters and in particular the first 12 optional params. They will set everything from code recognition to handshaking to whether the file name is read in or not on input. If your still struggling give us call. I'd be glad to help out one of Randy's customers.

Sincerely,

John Carpenter
