What'd the instructor tel you when you expressed your dis-pleasure with the course? I'm dying to find out.

Personally, I don't see much use in learning Mastercam if he doesn't know how to run a machine or read G-code first. At 16, I presume that he has yet to work in a machine shop. Perhaps an introductory apprenticeship course would be more beneficial for him to try out the machining trades and start with the basics first.

I could not agree more with Peter. Start with the basics. Tell him to get a part-time job at a shop first. However, I do not suggest getting the job AND learning MC at the same time. The kid will give up the manual stuff within a couple of days. Being that young and wanting to get in this trade is fantastic. Being in the manufacturing industry is still in the top 10 catagory for highest paid jobs in the US. Tell him to take his time and learn all that he may. From ground zero, of course.

Yes I expected more of Les. Perhaps my desire to give the benefit of the doubt has clouded my better judgement.
