Default configuration file location.

We are having problems with different users changing options in the config files on our mastercam stations. The problem is that a user will make a change on one machine but when he goes to another machine the change isn't there. So he makes the change on the other machine also. Then a new user comes in and not realizing the change has been made post out an improper post.

I would like to move the default location of mill8.cfg to each users personal driver letter on the network. That way no matter where they log in it reads their personal config file.

Is it possible to do this?

Thanks

Craig

Short answer: Depends.

There is no way to make the default .cfg anything other than mill8.cfg. There is also no way to select a .cfg file from a different directory. The only way to do this is to create a login script that copies each user's mill8.cfg into the Mastercam directory at login. I'm pretty sure this can only be done with WinNT or 2K server running your network as a domain and the script files have to be on the server.

Remember the good times of DOS?

A simple batch file can do the job even today. Create a John_smith.bat file like this for each user:

del mill8_cfg.bac

ren mill8.cfg mill8_cfg.bac

copy John_smith.cfg mill8.cfg

mill8

exit

Also each user has to have his John_smith.cfg file, which will be copied instead of Mill8.cfg.

To polish it up, you can create a shortcut for each of the users (.bat file), even have his photo as the icon smile.gif

V9 addresses this issue.

Each user can create his own Mastercam CFG file with the preference of his choice and then create different shortcuts to start Mastercam with that specific shortcut. For example, "John" can create a config called John.cfg and launch Mastercam as follows with the following being the "target information.

C:MCAM9MILL9.EXE JOHN.CFG

By doing this, it is very simple to have as many shortcuts as you desire.

Regards.

As far as I know. no.

You would want this because?

confused.gifconfused.gifconfused.gif You would want the same length of lead out regardless of tool diameter?
