Windows Media Crashing MasterCAM?

Every now and again I run Windows Media Player while programming in MasterCAM. And every now and again MasterCAM will crash if I am processing a large toolpath (3+2 Surfacing). I've never put the two together until lately, I'm listenning to music more often. Has anyone else noticed this problem? I looked but no I didn't come across any other posts with this "theory".

My guess is that this is a RAM issue with your PC

I listen to media player a lot and while I have sometimes had sound quality issues with media player I can't blame it for any of my crashes...

I'm assuming WMP 10.

 

If you disable visualizations, does it help?

I do occasionally use WMP at work and I haven't had any real problems with it.

Slick, actually. But that's ok If you have bad sound, it might be streaming issues if listening online. Wonky soundcard driver if you're listening offline - could also be an overtaxxed system if you have onboard sound.

Winamp is mint. I have an iPod and I still exclusively use Winamp; I don't even have iTunes installed...get that iTunes crap outta here! When it comes to a full-featured media player that doesn't suck all the resources out of your computer, Winamp saves the day. My take on it

I have the visual disabled. As a matter of fact, I have everything disable (Internet, Radio, Visual). Like Budgie said, maybe it's a RAM issue. It's good to hear other people comment on the sound issues. If I have MEdia open, but not playing anything and run "Verify" I get a pretty wild static/frequency that comes thru my headphones.

I'll look in to getting IS to install Winamp and see if the problem goes away.

II had that problem yesterday got a error saying Perp/Hybrid toolpath failed then gave we a memory allocations error and mastercam 9 would open but when selecting geometry it would crash and mcamX wouldn;t open at all. I rebooted and everything is fine again but found it odd this is a pretty powerfull computer

I've something strange to report here. After seeing this discussion I tried Winamp. It seems to consume less resources as promised and sounds great all the time (maybe a little static while rotating dynamic).

 

I've never had problems with MCAM crashing during save and leaving an unusable file until today. I lost 2 hours of work today. I am now using a combination of Autosave and "Second Copy" to leave 20 incremental saves (10 min intervals for now) in a special folder. That shouldn't happen again...

 

I've seen a lot of "LOST FILE" posts here over many months and wonder how many were using Winamp ?
