Invalid axis combination

You just need to fix the axis combination in the machine definition file (should take approx. 1 minute).

1) Either close X and reopen it in Design or select Design in the Machine Type dropdown and then select File New to clear the database.

2) Now select Machine Definition Manager... in the Machine Type dropdown. Load your .mmd (.lmd, .rmd, or .wmd) file.

3) Click the Edit Axis Combinations button at the top left corner of the Machine Def Manager dialog.

4) Expand all of the branches in the Components Used frame and look at the Axes and Components listed in the Axis Combinations frame above. You need a minimum of 3 linear axes (2 for lathe) a work holding component (Machine table, fixture chuck) and a tool holding component (spindle or turret). Find the missing axes or component and check it it the tree.

5) Green check out of the Axis Combos dialog and save the machine def file.

I went through this a week ago myself--another way to load the machine definition that you can't get to, is to select, under machine type, one of the generic machine definitions, then open the machine definition manager. From here you can open the defective definition using the file, open icon in the upper left hand corner of the window. For some reason when a defective machine definition tries to load, MCX loads a default definition that is located in the config folder. Browse to the cnc_machines folder to find the definition in question and then make the axis combinations adjustments necessary to make it valid again. Cheers.
