Custom safety zone in machine paramter?

Is it possible to create a custom safety zone rather than just a rectangle, sphere or cylinder?

It sure would be nice to draw up the machine column as a safety zone.

I have been reading the various colums and requests from Randle X and frankly to "you forum people" it sucks that all you lot seem to do is try your best to give him a hard time.

I can relate to a lot of what he is going through and will go through with the software and I believe that sometimes him getting fed up and saying so is OK because a lot of the time when I have had issues, no one listened until I got shirty, then it was all hands on deck.

I think his request here, is for me a good question, why can we not define ( or can we define ) all of the machine safe zones so that it is impossible to crash a tool into the bed for example, or as happens to me a fair bit setting the X Y datums and finding that the machine will not go there, IE Facing and the Overlap setups in the parameter page can take the machine out of limits. Sounds dumb of me but it happened today.

The only machines I have come into contact with where this is a normal practise is Okuma.

Is there an answer to his question or are we to prolong the BS.

I don't think its possiable, but the direction they may be headed is using the stock setup with an offset to apply a safety zone ( if you look in the stock setup they have an option to use a file). just a thought

I suppose importing a sold model of the machine and useing that as the "check" suface for would work. But this would only work for surfacing ops.
