Peck tap

I am just now trying this peck tapping. It seems to be working good. I jaust put a Q in the g84 line and it seems to stop the spindle at the increment specified. My question is should it retract out of the hole? It seems to only stop the spindle.

Did you put a number with the Q? If not then it would only stop the spindle and go from there I would think.

Yes, I have rigid tap and I put a Q.05 in the program. It seems to travel .05 then stop the spindle go .05 more and so on and so on.

Depending on the machine but most of them peck tap in the same manner of a G73 motion. It doesn't retract completely. In this case, its also controlled by the same parameter as the retract value for G73. If the parameter is set real short (like only a couple thou) then the retract will seemingly be non-existent.

 

Some machines with peck tapping may have a seperate parameter ( or another code added to override/control retract ) to adjust this.

Thanks Psycho, is a couple thousands enough? Should I adjust the parameter?
