My current virus checker is expiring and I have

been unable to renew it - V comm Fixi-it -

What programs are you guys using that work well

with Mcam X & 9 I have read reviews until Im

totally confused - is a suite better than

an individual set - what about support needed

and the cost of support - I know I want disks

and documentation not a download - had too much

trouble with that today - spent $40 and have nothing to show for it

We use the symantec client security at work, support has been very helpful. At home I use the free AVG antivirus & ZoneAlarm firewall without any problems.

At work, they use a hardware firewall, Norton and Spysweeper

I've used Zonealarm for years as a firewall at home, and AVG free for antivirus.

 

Have recently gone to Zonalarm antivirus at work and at home. Firewall (excellent) and antivirus in one program. It does a great job with very, very minimum setup hassles.

It helps to find things BEFORE they become a problem. With that running, you will be amazed at the kind of crap that tries to install itself as a startup process.

How do I set what programmes and processes are activated at startup?

You can check out the utility don mentioned above, it should keep anything new unless you authorize it.

 

If you go the start menu & run MSCONFIG there is a startup tab & you can see what is loading at startup. Some of the spyware & adware is really persistent & doesn't want to be removed that way. I regularly run Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware. Hijack This is another good removal tool, but you kinda got to know what your doin & research the entries it finds to verify that you really want to get rid of them. All 3 (Spybot, Adaware, & Hijack This) are freware & available from Download.com

I dont like or trust Symantec anymore. I started using Avast about a year ago and it's worked GREAT. It's also free for home use. Not many free things are worth while, but this is.
