Good morning,

We need some help How to set up Funuc Data server and WinXp Sp2.

I tried to search the forum, but no luck

We got new 4-axis horizontal Makino A88e with dataserver.

The manual show how to set up with WinNT as below

Nc machine:

ScreenShot029.jpg

Host Computer:

ScreenShot031.jpg

We used WinXP Sp2 instead of WinNT as per Manual.

The problem:

from nc machine we press soft key [HOST] the alarm come up " DISPLAY ERROR " .

I think that because WinXP Sp2 has Firewall protection, so I turn it off, but still don't work

Any body please can help me out

Thanks in advance

Paul, we run Niigats's with the data server.

We uses Filezilla, an open source, free, FTP server to communicate to/from the niigatas. Set up the XP box as an FTP server using 'zilla server, setting the IP address and port 21, point the CNC to that ip address, user, password, etc... and good to go....

Take a look at the ftp server and then let me know if you need help setting up.

Fanuc's instructions are cryptic at best, but once you set one up, it's super easy.

oooops, forgot. make sure you set up 9 as the communications port (0 is rs-232) in settings, or it will NEVER work)

You have to give the machine a login DIR to go to on the file server. (ex. c:ncdata) As you have it set, it goes nowhere. Actually, in my experience the I/O channel should be 5 not 9. I don't even know what 9 is.

I/O Channel 9 is what works on my Fanuc 18i controls but you do need a Login DIR as James said. We use a shareware FTP Server that works great. EFTP client server can be downloaded from here

http://www.encrypted-ftp.com/

We have 3 machines setup to push & pull programs from various directories using this software.

EDIT: Just a note, those janglish Fanuc manuals seldom have all the info you need to make things work. The software they provided us as machine builders never did work properly so we figured this one out on our own.

I/O 9 is for our eternet ports (host -> embed soft keys)in the Fanuc (also 18i). I did kinda blow past the login dir, but (and I tested this am) if you don't set one, our FTP allows login to the root of the FTP server. In our case, it's fanftp

Depending on the FTP server, you generally need to make sure username and pass are the same case (upper or lower) on the server and CNC, or you will not access.

Also, we set up 2 sub-dirs per machine that can be connected to using the connect keys at the control; one called M_in (for programs going into the machine) and one called M_out (for programs leaving machine) so that we know which ones have been run and/or edited at the machine. That makes it easy to segregate and backup the proven and optimzed programs from the unproven ones,

Good morning,

Zoober and Tommy: for now we dintn't have third party software set up, just WinXp Sp2 in host computer (my laptop for now before I hook up to main network)

Jame: I think you right we need login DIR set

The current set up for now:

Machine:

IP address: 192.168.0.1

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Port No = 21

I/O chanel = 5

Login DIR = none

Host computer WinXp Sp2 :

IP address: 192.168.0.101

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

From Host computer we use DOS command and type:

ftp 192.168.0.1

Enter user name & password.

We had connection to the machine Data server HD-Dir

at ftp> promt. We use: PUT, GET, DIR ... They ere working fine.

but from the NC machine We try connect to host computer by using the soft key in front of panel[HOST], we have alarm " DISPLAY ERROR"

In our case the folder (DIR) in host computer is C:NCFILE what should we put

Login DIR = /NCFILE or NCFILE or in full path C:NCFILE ... (in the machine we don't have character (backward key))

We tried Login DIR = /NCFILE (as per manual ) , but no luck

Thanks

Paul

I use WS_FTP, and it works like a charm. EVERY TIME. Matter of fact, I ususally don't even use GET and PUT at the machine. I just drag and drop stuff onto the Dataserver with it. Here's the procedure I use...

quote:

Fanuc 16i Data Server Setup

SYMBOLS USED

In this Tech Tip, the following symbols are used to represent the Keys on the control panel to be used. Please note

the type brackets used for each type of Key. [ ] or { }

HARD KEYS are Keys that are found to the right of the control Screen and have printed names on them. I show

them as [xxxx] Where the xxxx is replaced with the printing on the Key

SOFT KEYS Are Keys that are found along the bottom of the screen, they are called Soft Keys because

there function will change depending on the mode and screen displayed. I show them as {xxxx} where

the xxxx is replaced with what the Key is labeled on the screen. The {>} key is the right most soft key and

changes what is the displayed on the soft keys

NOTES:

1. Turning on PWE

A. Set Mode Selector switch to MDI

B. Set Data Edit Key Switch to Data Write

C. Press [OFFSET SETTING] Hard Key

D. Press {SETTING} Soft Key Cursor should be on PWE

E. Press [1] [iNPUT]

F. Control gives alarm and PWE now on

2. Changing the I/O port

A. Set Mode Selector switch to MDI

C. A Directory on a PC’s Hard Drive over the Ethernet cable

D. Memory Card Loaded in to a slot Left side the CRT Panel

You can transfer NC Programs directly between any two locations

You can run NC Programs form any location directly A, B, C or D, or as a SUB Program from A, B or C

To do any of the above you first must set up the Data Server. And RS-232

By setting the Port #, IP Address. And User Name.

Similar to RS-232 settings, the values are not important as long as they Match.

That (IIS) can be done, But I've found that the open source FTP servers are such an easy thing to set-up, that's the way we did it. Not saying that it is the only way, just the way we chose to do it. We also find that the 'Zilla server eats way fewer resources, because it's only a FTP server, not a web server and such.

Hi Zoober and Chuck,

Right now I perfer NOT to use third party softwares if possible. The rules of the company is Any softwares MUST BE approved and tested by the IT personel before using them in the shop or network, Maybe I have to wait for next year to be approved.

So, I am going to try Windows FTP option first

Thanks
