i am trying to make a sighn with letters on it and i got it all drawn in on mastercam x. i am trying to cut it into steel and the only endmill that will fit is a 18th inch which is to small to remove the material with out breaking. i am trying to cut a rough pass with a 14 inch bit but i cant get the contour to recognize that there are other letters so it cuts off the letters around the one that it is contouring. i no my way around mastercam but i am stumped does any one have a solution?

Could you create an offest around the letters and trim the intersections so that you have one continuous chain? Then rough that chain with the 1/4 inch bit.

what level mastercam do you have?

mastercam x i think level 3

If you have level 3 you can create surfaces

that your end mill won't be allowed to violate.

Do you ever program 3d toolpaths?

yes i am fairly good at 3d but than the tool paths will be hard to draw on the small scale that i have the part is only goes .125 inches down

The Most simple to me looks this way:

Use pocket operation ,select your contours with some outside contour for wall ,deselect rough ,leave finish ,deselect finish outer boundary

How did you select your contours? If you window to select them, it may work like you want and recognize the other letters.

2d pocket is the way to go. make sure all chains are closed
