moving my CNC mill

I will be moving my mill (Haas Mini Mill) to a new location later this week. My question is, what do I do with all of the coolant? What is the proper method of disposing of it?

In California you have to call a waste hauler to take it away. It cost about $200 for a 55 gal drum. If its still clean, I put it in a drum and keep it.

If you want to dispose of it you will have to pay call your coolant distributor

or pump it in a barrel and take it with you to reuse

If you are just moving the Mill, why do you not pump the coolant in a 55 gal. drum, and bring it to the new location, and put it back in?

+1 Lars. We just moved 10 machines to the new shop. Pumped coolant into barrels, then pumped it back in through mesh filters for use here. Used a vacuum type barrel pump, worked great.

Here we use an evaporator to evaporate the water out and then all we are left with is the oil in the drum. saves disposal money.

There are business that haul this "stuff" away, mine has a small tank truck with a vacum pump. prices can vary greatly. My county waste gov.agency faxed me a list of business or ask some other shops or see yellow pages. Can't just dump this stuff out.

If you have a buddy with a gas station or can bribe the 16-year-old at Jiffy lube I'd opt for that method. We evaporate our coolant and have a Safety Kleen [or somebody like that] guy come in a couple times a year and pump out about 700 gals of the residual sludge, but this sounds like a one-time deal for you...
