I had posted this question in off topic with little response. Suggestion was made to move over here. So.... Has anyone used this material? I never heard of it before this week. It's available. Not sure what the one enginneer has in mind, but he asked if I had machined it before. Appericate your help.

neal, from what i read about it ,it is used for making appliances and resturant equipment, used mainly for forming and rolling.it is suppose to be easy to clean and leaves fewer fingerprints.don't know

why someone would want to machine it.

"These grades may be a bit easier to machine than their 3XX counterparts because of the addition of manganese"

"A number of stainless steel alloys in this classification have the trade name Nitronic"

That should make it fairly easy to machine.

Another interesting fact: "These alloys were used during the Korean War to preserve nickel."

+1000 to cascade,

tool geo is very important with any stainless. We mostly cut alot of 3xx series (including 304L nuclear mad.gif ). So when we get a 2xx series job, it's a treate biggrin.gif . It is also important to do the math for your speeds, feeds, and DOC up front. Don't do the old WAG method.

Just my two cents.
