Hello peeps, I have a little problem here.

it's been a great while since I use the 4 axis in the mills,now I have a part like this:

4.020 dia, 1" long.

on the dia. i have 3 tabs or stand offs (like ears)

they are .090 in dia. and .060 hight. 120 degrees apart.

could some one please help me how to machine these little tabs on that dia?

sorry i can not post to the server.company rules.

thanx in advance

thanx matt for your replay;

i could use 9 or X, the little tabs have straight walls, imagine a cylinder 4.020" dia. 1" long ,now on that dia. 3 stand offs or like pins 120 deg. apart and .090" dia. .060 tall from that dia. to be machine on a 4 axis mill.

i wish could post to the server, but may get in trouble.

Un-rap the geometry (enlarge the circles for the pins), use a 2d pocket with axis substitution. for roughing.

Then for finishing use toolpanes and a 2d contour.

You could project a contour toolpath onto the cylinder depending on the requirements of the intersection of the pin to the cylinder.

No just use pocket, you need to draw it flat to the circumference of recess you will create doing the undercut. So by what you said your rectangle will be 12.246 x 1.2 the .2 is so you have something to clean up on both sides of the part. You then need to draw your 3 circles at equal spaces along the circumference. Then in your axis sub the Dia is 3.9.

I did an example and put it on the FTP as LATHE MILL 4TH AXIS EXAMPLE.MCX the only problem I see is that it is MR2.
