X2 Crashing

Tell me about it man, ever since I got my new 64bit system, X2 crashes alot, always when I go to add dimensions when creating the layout sheet. I don't understand that, it ONLY crashes when I go to add dimensions. I've heard to try and download new drivers, but I've already got the latest one. I hope someone comes up with a fix for this one soon, this problem really aggravates the smack out of me

Shawn,

that's a pretty good machine you've got there.

I'd install the latest (91.36) drivers.

turn all the Windows eyecandy off and disable

the unifed back/depth buffer in the Nvidia perfomance settings.

X2 has been the most stable yet for me.

running an AMD 64 and Quadro Fx-1400 at work

and a P3.2 EE with a Quadro FX3000 and home.

One of the guys here at work got a new box this week (AMD64X2 and Fx1500) and was crashing a lot while rotating a large solid model. We set the Windows visual performance setting to "Max performance" and he hasn't crashed since.

One thing a lot of people forget to do...

When installing new video drivers, uninstall the old ones first, reboot then install the new ones.

Just wanted to suggest that you try turning off the auto backup and see if it helps with some of the crashing. We were having problems with one guys system here and after weeding it down to what was different on his than some of the other seats here, we tried that and (knock on wood) he hasn't crashed since.

if you've found a way to crash Mastercam and you can replicate the crash, save the file with

zip2go (in the help menu) and email it to

[email protected] with a brief note telling them how to make it crash.

If they don't know about it, they can't fix it.

IMO, Autobackup is bad news especially if you are running large files. It will start to do a save in the background and you won't know it.

You're banging away on the keyboard and X2 its trying to save the file. Sometimes the results aren't pretty frown.gif

I use the new backup utility and hit

ALT A at regular inervals.

Turning off eyecandy is a MUST for CAD/CAM Workstations IMHO.

...backplot a operation and dont escape from the backplot, then try to create a drill operation. does this make you crash?...

Yes, doing that makes Mastercam crash on my VERY STABLE system. Personally I never try to do things while in backplot until I'm finished. But yes that should be fixed.

Send it to [email protected]

the new backup utility Whats this, and how does it work

go to System Config/Files/Autosave/Backup and enable backup

Everytime you Save your file X2 will write

another copy to to a backup folder.

You can use the defualt folder set in the file

page or make a folder of your own

I use C:MCBAK.

Every time you save, X2 writes

filename101

filename102

filename103 etc etc

Once it reaches the limit you set, (5 by default)

it overwrites the first backup file working down the list with each Save

Its totaly invisible and runs in the background,

but if you suffer a catasrophic crash, you've got

5 or 10 copies backed up current to your last 5 or 10 saves.

You will need to clean out your backup folder at least weekly. It can get pretty big if you don't.
