Cutting - stock

I believe you're correct Hardmill. Any time I have tried something like this I've gotten a message saying "negative stock can not exceed tool radius", at least in V9. Haven't tried it in X yet. Cuda84, it almost sounds like it's letting you go through with generating the toolpath but still isn't doing what you want, is this correct? If so this is a change from V9...

I have a bug logged with QC about this.

As of April somebody in QC had told me this about a separate inquiry

quote:

For now a working rule of thumb is: negative stock can be larger in magnitude than the tool corner radius in all toolpath/surface functions except pencil and flowline.

As a workaround I have been creating offset surfaces and machining them with no stock to leave. For funky geometry I once used solid shell to give me offset geometry to cut...

Thank you all for your replys. I made offset surfaces to get the desired toolpaths.

I ran a test of a planer surface that I created in a seperate file. Same tool -.04" stock, the tool cut to the correct location, as verified in backplot. This same toolpath would not work on a 3D surface. It seems to be cutting about -.03". It is not cutting to my offset surfaces.
