surface restmill

I did a search of old restmill threads and most people seemed to think you either got lots of air cuts or surface violations. Has anyone figured out how to get the surface restmill to only cut the corners and the pockets where a larger tool from surface rough pocket could not go? I'm using a 3.0 high feed to rough the part and a 1.25 button to restmill it.

I have found I have had best results using stl files for my restmill operations. The biggest problem I have seen is the length of time it takes to generate the toolpath.

I also prefer to use either an stl file or the size of the roughing tool as apposed to the previous operation. Play with your gap settings (Restmill tab, gap settings), at times I've increased this to 1.000" to avoid lots of retract moves.

+1, size of roughing tool has always worked best for me.

I get pretty good results in the "restmill" function in the Surface High Speed/Waterline op. using the roughing tool option--also sometimes it works selecting 1 previous operation. But, if I select all previous operations it seems to choke.

When using rest mill, the first restmill using previous OP works well but if you have more than 1, I like to use the .stl to define the remaining stock.

.stl works well for simple shapes. the polygons never seem to fit right on more complex shapes, thus unnecesary air cuts as well as areas left uncut. I tend to use all options as each situation is unique.
