Contour with shallow and flats

Recommended Posts

I'm using V9 and trying to produce a uniform finish across a large impeller. I'm using a contour finish toolpath and setting shallow with add cuts and flats with the same step over as on the vertical walls.

The finish on the vertical walls is great but as it moves into the floor at the base of the impeller blades the scallops appear to be as if the stepover is set at 0.050. I'm using a 0.005 stepover throughout the part including shallow and flats.

I was hoping to get a uniform finish using a single toolpath. I may need to use a finish scallop between the blades to smooth out that area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Aslo might talk them into getting X the advanced 5 axis toolpaths handle impellers vey nice and have spefically designed toolpaths for them.

I would look at curve and draw my toolpath and then that will project it to the surface you are trying to cut a little old school but in V9 that was a toolpath I could always count on for good results that way on diffuclt shapes while keeping file nc file size to a useable size.
