4th axis rotary toolpath

Good morning to all.

 

I have just got into doing 4th axis rotary work, and am having a small problem. The part that I ran was a round part with a radius cut around the outside of it for bending tubing. The problem is that as i was cutting the part my z axis kept moving up and down,causing high and low spots in the part, even though i was not moving in y and my rotary table was turning. I did it with a rotary path with MC. What would cause this to happen?

Did you use a 5 axis toolpath to make this toolpath. I like to use axis subsution to make these types of toolpaths becuase they keep the Z constant verses 5 axis toolpaths converted to 4th axis toolpath that seem to make these Z moves which are a PITA.

I did not make it using a 5 axis post. I tried , but I did not like the way the part looked in the solids verify. I just used rotary 4th axis toolpath.

can you make a line length that is your circumfrence then just run a contour path and in your tool parameters check the rotary axis, and fill out your parameters in there with a axis substitution?

thats the way I would do it.

not sure if its the same in X2 though.

Rotary 4axis will give the same results as the 5 axis toolpaths in 4th axis mode most times.

Thanks for the help. I got some information on some software that helps with understanding the multi-axis programming. I am going to check into it and see if it helps with the questions and problems that I am having.
