Good, Bad, or UGLY?

While cleaning out a rear storage area here at the shop, we found an old wire EDM. It's a Japax LDM50A with a JAPT5G power unit.

 

Anyone know anything about these? We're going to set it up and see if it works. I've never done any wire work so this should be interesting.

Wire EdM is cool thing to do

But it is a trade itself and you need to learn lots of things in a couple of weeks

The big problem is Edm wire service .

It is very costy and if you have an old used machine it can be HUGE !

MSC sells some books on wire edm that will give you an overview. Did not someone in last month ask about parts for Japax wire? I think a company called McWilliams deals in these alot as does NetworkEDM. Japax was bought out by Sodick, but heard they still make new Japax's in Korea but don't sell them in U.S. I think these are pretty sound machines from what I have heard, you can probably hire someone(part-time) who has run one. I believe you can also hire someone from the above companies to come in and help get you going. my 2Cs

ocean lacky, we use to have an old japax wire but in forget the model.it was made in the 80,s.all manual input or tape reader.i remember some about it.is the one you have similar.

del, we don't have power to it, yet, waiting on the electricians.......tap, tap, tap.....it does have two floppy drives and a box of old disks...so, I'll see know more when we can fire it up.
