Lathe o.d. grooving

Hey everyone,

 

I am doing a 2" wide by 3" deep groove. I want to slow the feed and speed down when it has full width of the cutter. Then raise it up for the rest of the paths that do not use full width. Can you do this in mc or do you have to manually do it in the program.

in your toolpath parameters, you can change the speed and feed for each individual op while using the same tool. just change on the parameter page. But leave the tool alone. if you highlight the tool after you change it, it will revert back to the stored speeds and feeds from the tool.

You could program 1 "fake" groove for the full width pass and another for your stepovers; you may be able to do a toolpath edit in MC. If you're using canned grooving you're stuck with method #1.

Use the toolpath editor for this. You can define new feed for every move you would like. Right click desired toolpath at the bottom will be the editor.

Right click the operation and select the "Toolpath editor". You can now sselect each toolpath as if it was geometry and change a multitude of things like feadrate, coolant etc.

In this case, I would program it as the faster speed, and manualy slow down the full width pass other than the other way around. Another thought... Do you have any 35 or 55 degree turning tools? If so, can you rough it out with them and then use stock bondary knowledge and have the grooving tool finish the left over. Ju st a thought anyways.
