  1. Thanks for the sample. I did not have "use dynamic core mill passes" checked. I have a question though on uses for this. Lets say you had a part that just had a few raised sections 1/2" tall on a plate. Would using "Core Mill" and turning on "Trochoidal motion" be the same type of toolpath, meaning would it behave the same on being able to do a large depth of cut to remove the material? KGN
  2. I am having an issue with trying to get dynamic mill to work as seen at this link http://69.50.202.57/~alvaro/cadcam/masterc...namic_mill.html I have a similar part with 4 islands and an open chain with the open end situated the same position as in the video mentioned above. When I select open chain entry it does not want to cut the pocket leaving the islands, it wants to take an island and make it a pocket. When you watch the videos (watch long version) where they were testing dynamic mill the cutter rapids to clearance plane then feeds stright down to depth then starts its pathing all the while it is off of the part. How do I get it to do that? The only choices that get me a part that looks correct is an entry helix which is what I don't want. Any help would be appreciated, this forum is great and a wealth of info. KGN
  3. Thanks, I was wondering if that would mess anything up with any of my settings. KGN
  4. Is there an easy way to uninstall the MU1 for X4? KGN
  5. I run our Mori NL1500SY/500 and love it. An engineer asked me yesterday when I was doing a complex part "is there anything this thing can't do" and I said I haven't found it yet. Just a word of advice, learn to read code and if you make any edits to a program make sure you double check yourself and step it through in single-block while watching the machining and reading the next lines of code on the screen. KGN
  6. I ran Mazaks for years along with 2 or 3 smaller brand lathes. We bought the Mori NL1500 SMCY and my suggestion is buy the Mori. I program it with Mastercam but did use the conversational control for several months. We got it from Ellison in Oregon and had them add the through sub-spindle so we can do really long parts by doing a "shuffle". It will hold .0001 all day long and when you come in Monday it may only be .0001 off from when you shut her down on Friday. KGN
  7. I would love to have a Spongebob too. Thanks, KGN
  8. Here's a new problem to me. Running X2 MR2 and when I try to post it starts to run the X2 MR1 updater and install it. I have to hit the "cancel" button twice to stop it. How do I fix this? Keith N.
  9. We have a new Mori NL1500/SY and I'm having trouble in backplot/verify on sub-spindle live DRIll tools. They show backwards from sub-spindle live MILL tools. Everything posts good it's just backplot/verify that is giving me trouble. For the sub-spindle using live tools (mill tools) it's programmed as if it was in a mill with Z0 being the face of the part and anything into the material is a - direction even though really it is a + direction. When posted the post reverses the signs and all is good. Any ideas where to look in the post to find how to get the Mdrill tools to backplot/verify like the live Mill tools? Keith Xerox Modelshop
  10. When I do a stock transfer it moves a copy of it to the other spindle. Try looking in your level manager to see if you have a copy of it. KGN
  11. Yes sorry if I wasn't clear. I know that it's like that but sometimes in C axis programming using Cross drill toolpathes or C-axis drill toolpathes can be a bit buggy and if you want to check that you have your settings correct for top of stock or depth the Verify will show it especially when translucent stock is used and backplot is to hard to see it when its being unrolled. Keith N. Xerox Modelshop
  12. Look in the PH Horn catalog. It's a German company that has really great micro I.D. stuff for lathes. They have a system that clamps their small tools that you can take out the boring bit and put it back in and bore a hole and it's within .0001 of the previous hole size. Keith N. Xerox Modelshop
  13. I do about 2/3 of my programming in lathe which we have a Mori NL1500SY with live tools, front and sub spindle servo axis and through hole in the sub spindle for doing really long parts using a "shuffle" motion to continue pulling stock. I find I need verify over backplot in a lot of occasions because drilling C axis holes show up as the correct depth and position. In backplot if you have unroll on in rotary axis it shows the hole being drilled or feature being milled out of position because you have unrolled it. Keith N. Xerox Modelshop
  14. Sorry Terry you were answering as I was typing an answer. Keith
  15. Right click the operation and select the "Toolpath editor". You can now sselect each toolpath as if it was geometry and change a multitude of things like feadrate, coolant etc. Keith N.
  16. I wish it was usable that way. lets say you did a job and 3 months later the same job came back and you wanted to look at what size stock you used so you could order it again. It would be real handy to be able to look at what size you used last time but Chris is right it always reverts to the wrong size. Keith N.
  17. We have a waterjet that the software really has issues with offsetting a distance when we try to control size. I know you can filter and select all arcs of a certain diameter, but can you change their sizes all at the same time? If so how do you do it? The department that is running the waterjet is using McamX2 to manipulate the geometry then saving as a .dxf file so then they can run the waterjet software. They want to take a large part with multiple holes and change their diameters all at once. Thanks,KGN
  18. I disagree, in lathe you can not create your stock like you can in Mill. Without stock the roughing cycles will not work correctly because is will not know if you had say a 1/4" extra material or the lead in/out and extend contour features will not work correctly. It seems kind of strange that it requires another license for another product to be able to use a product you have already bought and paid for. KGN
  19. "This point is positioned at coordinates defined in chuck programmed events"?? This is a statement on the Parameters page of the chuck properties. I am thinking I downloaded a hacked copy from some other country and they are having trouble translating some of the stuff :/ KGN
  20. I just installed MR1 and when in lathe it says I need a solids license to describe my stock?!? I can define the chuck but nada on the stock. I wonder has anybody seen anything else buggy with lathe? KGN Xerox Modelshop
  21. Well I see they have not fixed the issue of pocketing with an island and having "Keep Tool Down" checked then using anything but 0 angle gouges. Was reported back when X2 first came out and I was hoping they would have time to fix it but oh well Keith Newell Xerox Modelshop
  22. Uncheck the "Keep Tool Down" box and it fixes it. The bug has been reported about a month ago. Keith
