Lathe Grooving

Is it just me or does MCX have a problem when using a groove tool that's either the same or similar to the groove size...?

 

The example I am going from is I have a .156" face groove. Simple. Plunge in to depth (.113" deep) with a .156" tool and done....

 

Crash a smash and it doesn't work...????

 

Possible/not possible?

Randy I always do these as a point toolpaths has always worked better and quicker than trying to use the groove toolpath. Crashing I do not do it that way so I can not comment on it but would send the file or steps you are doing to QC so they can investigate. You can use part off as well to do this toolpath verse the groove toolpath.

You can also use the cutoff toolpath

You need to set roughing stock to zero, change "rough step" to "number of steps" and set it to 1, also disable finishing pass.

 

This works every time.

Oh, and tool width can be same as groove width but not more.

I ahve always used "Finish" for this.
