4-axis surfacing

Hey guys, I am in the process of programming an auger that has 2 flutes 180 deg. apart. At the base of the flutes is a radius and the space between the flutes is rather large requiring the area between to be surfaced.

The only thing That sort of looks like what I want is a surface finish flowline on an unrolled surface with y-axis substitution.

I am stil pretty stuck at making a workable piece though.....any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'll also try and throw the part on the ftp in a little bit.

Thanx guys

Thanks guys, I tried putting it on the FTP yesterday but I couldn't get it to work. I'll give it another go this morning.

A couple of the problems I am facing with this auger is that it has a radius area rather than taper. I have done tapered ones in the past and tipped them like said John. This one will definately need surfacing. Another problem is that at the opposite end there is a square shoulder that I can't hit which keeps me from running off the part.

In my opinion it is a 4-axis impellor type of part, at least in the way it will need to be machined.

Thankys again for everything guys...I'll keep trying.

in the pic, notice the toolpath direction. the roughing toolpath is "morph between two surfaces" and then i used a "parallel to curve" to finish the walls. the finishing toolpath is not shown. these toolpaths are the new 5 ax suite.

i will put the file back on the ftp. you can use the same toolpaths for roughing, simply add depth cuts to them.

if you have nymore questions let me know. make sure you go thru all the settings of the path's i did.

the file is called: 4ax-surfacing_trevor.mcx
