do you have to create a drawing of the tool? Are there any files that i can get that have them drawn? Im using x2 mr1 sp1. i didnt see a user defined box in create a new tool tab. thanks for any help

I just define it as an endmill.

You don't get threads when you verify your tool

path, but the gcode is good.

What gcode said is what most do I think. If u want, u can create a custom tool which will show properly in verify. I like it because I can check several things at once, including pitch (got bit by that once).

CNC Apps Guy (I think) put a zip file on the FTP of Scientific Cutting Tools thread mills it's called "X MR2 SCT Threadmill Assortment.zip" in the /MCX_MR2_or Earler_Files/ folder

Yeah, there's quite a few threadmills in there.

 

I'm going to be adding some Tecnara and Nikken holders in there too shortly. Sure helps with collision detection in Backplot and verify. Many times I'll add the Machine Head in there too, especially on Horizontal Work.

Also check the tool manufacturers web sites. Some of them offer .DXF's of their tooling.

I used to use the dovetail mill and just set the dia. and angle. It's pretty close, you just cant see the bottom 30 degree part. Now we do lots of thread milling so I created 3 of a size we use alot but they are all single point. We never know whats comming but it wont be common. Sometimes it's a dual lead or special pitch so single point is all I've drawn. If this is what you want I can email them to you.
