Lead out on multi pass

Recommended Posts

I usually extend the part geometry (line or spline) the full diameter of the cutter when I run into that problem. Eg: If using a 1/2" endmill, extend the geometry 1/2". If the start or end point of the chain is an arc, I will usually add a line to the end of the chain.

David, no it's not a pocket. I am just creating a flat face (with a 5" facemill) on a round part, with a 45 deg. shoulder on one side. The other runs out off the part.

I could extend the line (which is what I normally do), but I have been experimenting with actually using the solid that was provided for me and not drawing all over it. As such I take their line and see how I can manipulate it within the toolpath itself.

As far as the overlap goes, it says in the help file that it is how far the tool travels past/off the part to leave a cleaner finish. Does this mean you want to use this without the actual lead out?
