Rotate model to make a surface to origin

I have mastercam V 9.1. Can you help and tell me how to rotate a 3d model to a specified surface. I.E if I have a surface at an unknown compound angle, can I pick a surface and rotate the model to get that surface true to the top view. Have seen demo of mastercam X, is it possible in X.

 

Any help appreciated.

in V9 click C Plane on menu, click on entity in next menu, then click on surfaces from the next menu, now you pick the surface you want, next it will show menu next/save, pick save and save with a name reflecting that surface. you should be able to toolpath with it now. this eliminates rotating the part unless you have to.

Create a construction plane using the

geometry - then do xform translate between

views - choose the created construction plane

as the source view and the desired view

as the destination view

Thanks for your quick replies. By doing as you said, is it possible to then save that view to top view? Nearly all our jobs are in car line and we have to move them into tool line (we are plastic mould makers). Once the model has been turned to a boss for example it then needs to be saved so we can measure and view in side and front views.

yeah what JDowe said about xform translate will move the model just like you want

Tried today and got it working. Will save me loads of time and make the result much more accurate.
