O/T What news do you hear??

Hello forum friends,

I am curious what your local news agencies have reported in regards to the accidental death of 4 Canadian soldiers by friendly fire in Khandahar. In the past, stories that were big news in Canada didn't even make the evening news at my inlaws in Washington state.

Hasta,

Phil

I heard about it for a couple of days but there has been nothing lately. I'm sorry for your country's loss. You'd think that with all the high tech gizmos and such, that there would be a better way of keeping track of ourselves (BTW - In Desert Storm we lost quite a few of our own to "friendly fire") and our allies so that this type of tragedy doen not happen again.

Do you think the booing of O Canada during game one of the Raptors/Pistons series in Detroit got any attention in the US too? My inlaws in Michigan (albeit very northern Michigan) have nothing to mention hearing eek.gif

PS: remember the upside-down Canadian flag incident at the World Series a few years back? tongue.gif

James

Thanks for the condolences. My thoughts though are more about what is reported or not and why.

When the gun turret on a US destroyer blew up we had coverage, when US troops hit their own tank in Desert Storm we heard about that too. When US news was saying troops had liberated Granada the world press was saying invasion of Grenada . The differences are just an interesting phenomena.

I don't want anyone to think I am US bashing. I love many things American like my wife, my 3 kids, Coke, great movies and music (especially bluegrass and Blues),and some beer (Henry Weinhards Private Reserve). Not to mention Mastercam. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

I just find the differences in news coverage strange between the two countries.

I heard in some detail on AM radio. They gave the facts all week ,also broadcasting the pilot's condolences to those men and their families. In my opinion AM radio offers the raw news without the reporters spin on it. TV reporters are entertainers on a TV show ,and in MHO they are not reporting everything , and they give their opinion and they shouldn't.

TV reporters think they are the news, they are not.

I believe the U.S, TV media is unbelievable.

I just find the differences in news coverage strange between the radio and the TV.

"Frindly Fire"

That's an Oxy-Moron if I ever heard one. Kind of like "Military Intelligence". (No offense to those that protect our nation - it's just that ANYTHING mired in that much dureaucracy can't be that intelligent)

Unfortunately this incident will stir up more Anit-Americanism and make them look like trigger-happy warmongers.

I find it hard to believe the pilot felt threatened by seeing muzzle flashes. In a hang-glider yes, but not in a fighter jet.

Gone are the days when you did not pull the trigger until you saw the whites of their eyes.

I thought the booing of O Canada was from the radical feminists in response to the phrase "In all our sons command"

Two Quotes I have read on other boards say:

"We (USA) have big guns and we want to use them"

(Britain)

And the most recent which I have Never heard before..."The reason we give our work to China

Again and again no matter what the price is because they are the last communist country and were trying to break it up by having a bigger and bigger foothold over there"...

confused.gif "Unfortunately this incident will stir up more Anit-Americanism and make them look like trigger-happy warmongers".

Really...But I always think what if we pulled the rug out on Everyone but ourselves ,and went back too being self sufficient and only thought of ourselves and protected only ourselves (Missle defense program)...The anti's would be !?!?!
